I will begin working in Tampa close to the airport/raymond james stadium. I was wondering where are the best places to live. My budget is ~$700 but I want it to be as low as possible. I'm open to commuting if its feasible. I know that St. Pete and Clearwater are a bit cheaper but again theres the question of traffic/commuting. I primarily want it to be as safe as possible with low crime rates.

Thanks for your help

Are you looking for a 1 bd. What do you like to do for fun?

What is an acceptable commute time?

Not really a clubber but I do like the occasional drink and I really like eating out. However the priority right now is to keep rent as low as possible. An acceptable commute is to get out of the house ~1 hour before work starts which is at 9AM.

I know of the SOHO/Hyde park/Channelside/Westshore areas but they are a bit out of my price range although I can swing it. I'm just trying to save as much as possible for my masters degree which I plan to get in about 2 years.

I guess the priority is price, safety, and convenience, in that order.

Try looking east. The further east you go the cheaper. For me price was the one of the main factors and I as well didn't care about clubbing so I chose Brandon. The Crosstown Expressway isn't that bad of a ride. If you choose Brandon you should be able to get to the airport in about 45 mins I would guess. Maybe less.

Try Oldsmar. Drive thru 580 , you will see lots of For rent signs. Most of them are for small apts in houses. They are rented for around that price. No luxury, just a place to live. Close to the airport without having to go out to Brandon.

Are there any decent areas 10-15miles north of the airport?

Folks say that the Westchase area north of the Town and Country area is nice. Carrollwood is directly east of Westchase and it is also supposed to be nice. However, I've heard that the traffic on Dale Mabry which runs through Carrollwood can be pretty heavy. Anything north of that is unfamiliar to me.

There are many nice places but 700 a month won't = decent. Best to find a room to rent in a nice house and save money.

I second this recommendation. Oldsmar is a very nice area, has nice housing and is close to the airport-easy commute-imho,I would rather chew glass than commute from Brandon.
Besides apts. in houses,I have seen condos listed in Oldsmar close to your price range too-700/800.

Agreed. I've been looking for a condo also in the area and have seen some nice ones in Oldsmar. I would stick to condo rather than apartment for overall better quality and safety.
