The weather for the upcoming week has a chance of thunderstorms each day. Does this mean we are entering the rainy season already? I thought it wasn't until mid June. Does it vary from year to year?

Well, The rainy season is in full force around June. It wiggles in starting around May. Mother nature doesn't go precisely to our calendar! Lol. All I can say is enjoy them! The thunderstorms are magnificent and breathtaking- The number one thing I miss about FL.

About mid June people in Brandon and east of Tampa will get most of the rain. Here on the gulf where i live it won't be until July if i am lucky before i get any real rain.

Most Mays are bone dry, last May was a freak month as we had one pretty wet week during that month, also May of 79 was a wet month with about 14" of rain in two days.

South FL starts to see T- storms about 3 weeks before we do, it all depends if we have the axis of high pressure on top of us, that will = dry air aloft and sinking air. Sinking air makes for friction and friction makes for hotter temps and kills any chance of T- storms to build as it puts a cap in the upper levels.

You need colder air in the upper levels and lift to make strong T- storms.

Sinking air kills any chance of getting rain.

We're replacing windows on the house next week so I'm sure it'll pour every day.

OK, so maybe not until June where I am (Pinellas county)?

We definitely do need rain! I don't think we've seen a single drop for about three weeks.

It's been three weeks on Sunday. This is normal May weather, dry and hot.

Looking forward to the thunderstorms! I doubt my kids remember them from when we lived in Texas so it will be fun to watch them get nervous and hide under blankets. Haha. I'll be sure to have the video camera out.
