I have lived in the Tamp Bay area since 1984[misplaced Texan] by way of being a military wife. I now live in St Pete as I found a really good deal on a retirement condo over there. All my children and granchildren live in Tampa thoough. I think I am one of the first Boomers to retire as most in my building are in their 90's.
St Pete seems to be mostly elders and Baby Boomers are going to be a lot different than our parents were on retirement. Just divorced after 35 years and that takes some adjustment. I am a retired RN here. I still work some to keep up my liscence though. But this is a great place to retire. Especially when this reccession is over.... |

That's a great book keeper!! I enjoy the history of Tampa, Silversurfer. A short story about my wife and Tampa relatives. We moved here from PA about 7 years ago. My wife remembers visiting Florida when she was about two. I can't remember from a year ago. So one day I spent some time in the Tampa public library looking for names and discovered her Grandmother and father lived, worked and died here in Tampa. We also found her father's grave site. Her Grandmother worked as a cigar roller in Ybor. Missed seeing the home by 2 weeks, where the highway went in just a couple of blocks from Ybor. Anyone have any ideas of worker lists for the cigar rollers? She'd like to find out where she worked. It's truly a small world!!

Great story.. Did you check out the museum in Ybor City? They might be able to tell if anything like that is available. They have restored homes there along with memorabilia. Check out the Farmer's market in the park while you are there.
I love Ybor city for the history. My LH did some destruction (opposite of construction) one time in some apts above the theather in Ybor. He also helped do some work in the theater. He said he thought it was haunted as some weird things happened while he worked there.

I have some time and thought I'd start popping in here. My husband was tranfered to Tampa from Boston and we moved down in December from NH. I'm a teacher (working a temp job for now in a school in Lutz). We have one young child here with us (toddler) and 4 much older children who stayed behind (in college and 1 is a junior in High School living with his mom). I'm learning my way around this place and we are closing on a house in Brooksville next month. I am so excited. My husband is from this area... grew up down here.... and has friends down this way. I am always up for an adventure and hate cold snowy weather... and so far I am loving Florida. I just wanted to say hi and let you all know I will be on here at times trying to get to know you!

You can make a new thread asking about Land O lakes. You need to put in info on what you are looking for as far as house prices, schools, work etc.
To create a new thread you go to the Tampa forum and select the 'New thread' button on the left top.

I've been in Florida since before Micky Mouse---stationed @ the Naval Training Center in Orlando in '70-limited duty after being wounded in VN. Bought my first house in Cassellberry in '71; folks moved to Sanford same year. Transfered, got divorced, married a native Floridian in '75.Navy kept me out of Florida 'til retirement. Returned to Orlando in '96, moved to Jax in '01, and now will be moving to St Pete in the VERY near future. All my kids are natives and 6 of my 10 grandkids. My son took a job in St Pete a year ago and moved there. I'll be coming soon to help him and his family as my daughter-in-law was in a wreck just before Xmas and is looking at 3 or more back surgeries over the next 3 year period. They will need help with the G-kids (3---2, 5, & 6). Grandpa to the rescue. Been looking @ houses on the 'net and have a real estate agent, so that's covered. Trust me, Folks, coming there from Jax, it's like a whole other state!!! Looking forward to the move. Any suggestions, directions, comments, etc. are appreciated. No where near new to Florida but don't know jack about St Pete/Tampa/Pinellas Parl/Seminole/Gulfport/Clearwater, etc.

You might want to post a new thread (the button on the top left) and put down what you want to spend etc. How close do you want to be to your son?
We have a lot of good St. Pete folks on this forum
