I know this is an education forum but many of you have listened to me vent about my other teaching job so I thought I'd post about my new one.
I LOVE my room. I can see every lab group as they work without obstruction. I don't have to worry about who broke the test tube (they never admit it) or who didn't clean up their glassware because each group has their own lab station and they're responsible for what's in their lab drawer. If it's missing, they pay for it. If they don't clean it, they deal with dirty glassware for the next lab. My classses are also capped at 24. There are 12 stations set up for two students. And I have a demo station. I can actually start doing the demos I've been showing videos of.
You know, I had decided, at the end of last year that I never wanted to teach chemistry again. I think I just didn't want to teach it in THAT room again. My husband says I should take pictures of my room/lab and send them to my old school with a note saying that this is what a real lab looks like but I think I'll just smile as I go in to work tomorrow and think of all the cool stuff I can now do that I couldn't dream of before.
That's great that you're now in such a wonderful work environment!
We're also off to a good school start. I could not be happier with my kids' teacher assignments. They seem to be very experienced, hard-working, innovative teachers that will challenge my kids. My kids are already excited about their upcoming school projects. Some of you may remember that last year my son was assigned the well-known "slacker teacher" and, after many meetings, I eventually pulled him out and homeschooled him. I think the school got the message this year as my kids seem to have won the teacher assignment lottery. Yeah!
Hooray! I'm having a great start too. My classroom is too small with the extra students, but they mostly seem to be ready to learn and well behaved. That is not typical at my school.
It sounds like a lot of people are getting off to a good start.
I'm glad to hear it. I love the part about them being responsible for their stuff.
