You are in way saying the same thing as him. We as a society do need to understand that not everyone can or should be taught in the same classroom. The district I just left is currently moving towards total integration with no pull out classes. That is a disservice to everyone. Your kids, for instance, need more individual attention and the specialized instruction you see that they are given, because you are right the difference is in how you teach them. Not all kids need or would benefit from the way you teach or.... frankly, we can't afford to educate all kids the way yours are educated. "Regular" kids are simply cheaper to educate. We really need to do a serious evaluation of what "least restrictive environment" should look like and achieve.

The issue is not with the population you work with. It's with the population of kids who are perfectly aware of everything and are making the conscious decision to refuse to follow rules and procedures of their school. All kids CAN learn, but when they are actively fighting the process and refusing the lessons being presented to them, it's a whole new ballgame. Students who defy or ignore teachers and lessons really will not learn...until if and when they decide to pay attention and participate. More severely disabled students may look to some like they are being defiant, but we know the behaviors we see are a function or product of the disability. For the general population and many of those labeled as being more moderately disabled, it is often very different.
