The BIGGEST problem is the culture in this country. Just like nurses are often depicted as sex-starved can't-wait-to-get-it-on types, teachers are depicted that way to. Heck, there is a p0rn site that has a similar "purpose" (Not naming it but I'm sure you can Google it).
Maybe this is one of the causes? Call me stupid but I blame the prevalence of p0rn for societies ills.

WOW! Not to sound all weird and whatnot but if you look at the women that are caught engaging in teacher-student sex, they tend to be good-looking and should easily be able to find someone if what they lack is a physical relationship.

You gave me an idea. Perhaps, instead of trying to get with a good-looking woman, I should just find someone that is overweight but has potential, get her to drop weight, find a stylist, and BAM...just like that I have a gorgeous woman!
So you're basically telling me that I'm full of doo-doo. Well that's fine. I don't care if anyone believes me or not. For one who's accustomed to academia, certainly you should be aware of student-on-female instructor-sexual harassment.
Sure boys make inappropriate comments, ONCE. And never to the degree that you are saying happens over and over to your gf. I have been asked out or complimented inappropriately but if someone wrote the things you claim I would have had them removed from my class.
One taboo not often discussed is female teachers and female students. Pretty much under the radar. Yet, happens more frequently than people know. Especially female coaches on trips with female athletes. And it is "consenual", often lesbian teens are confused, and seek an older lesbian for comfort and to discuss these feelings. Usually the relationship is short, and both move on to same age peers.
