Building rapport with students can be useful, but there are appropriate ways to do so. What was described would NOT be one of those appropriate ways.

Agreed.

Taking up advanced HS math time with a powerpoint on your family and how horrible life was? Waste of the kids time. I also think the circle and rocks and all that "sharing" puts many kids in an uncomfortable position. Does she let them opt out? (I hope so).

If it isn't part of the curriculum, it should be left to the "warm and fuzzy" classes or workshops or guidance counseling groups.
