I know, it is still early in summer but anyone have any major plans for the new year?
I have some ideas for ELA that I plan to implement for the upcoming year. I'm not going to focus on Social Studies 5 days a week anymore. It will be just 2-3 days a week with Extended ELA/Writing for the other days.
I am dreading leveling more of my books.
Nope, I have general ideas, it no planning. I'm not sure, other than generally, where I'll be. I know 4th grade, but I still might split with 3rd. I'm not a homeroom teacher so there's only so much I can do in advance. I need to know my kids, and their needs, before I can plan.
Ah a true teacher. As soon as summer starts you're planning for next year. I HAD major plans for next year but got laid off so now I have new major plans. Fin a job. It feels really weird to be two weeks into summer and NOT be planning for next year. Summer is when I have the time to really reflect on what worked and what didn't last year and plan appropriate changes. Since I don't know what/where I'll be teaching or even if I'll be teaching next year I can't plan anything.
Just this morning I thought about tweaking some things I did the last 2 weeks of the year. I had to make up new notes sheets and worksheets and I just had no energy left and they were not up to my usual standard... but maybe the thought will pass

Normally, I wouldn't be thinking about it quite yet but the summer program is a literacy one run by a local reading center. Some of the PL's have introduced some ideas and ways to modify for my classroom especially for my lower readers so my mind has been all over the place.
Next week, I am relaxing since I will finally have some time to myself.
UGH. My interview today was a speed round interview. They have over 20 applicants. I never do well in the elimination round. Just as well as the commute home would be ridiculous. It took me over an hour to get home at 1:30 in the afternoon. I don't want to know what it would be like at 5:00 during rush hour.
I'm just going to enjoy the rest of my summer and hope something comes up in the fall.
I have a question about getting written up as a teacher.
I have read several boards now about teachers getting written up and have heard comments at my own building about other teachers getting written up. I'm just wondering what typically happens when a teacher gets written up? Does the teacher know about it? Does the principal put something in your file? What is the process?

The process will depend on the district guidelines given to building administrators. Whether it goes in a temporary or permanent file is dependent primarily by the building administrator, but some districts have rule. You will know if you have been written up, you will have to sign that you received it.

You'll get something. I know the past two years we've had openings up to and including the last teacher workday before school started.

Current district, first one is verbal warning/slap on the wrist about the issue. If it happens again, it will go in your permanent file at HQ.
If it is serious enough, they will write it up, discuss the issue with you and have you sign off on it and you will get a form from HR plus the principal about it. Usually, if it is serious enough, you will end up on a PDP.
This is just going off my co worker this year who had a hell of a year between taking time off, put on a PDP, non renewal then a few weeks at central office to investigate an incident with a child.

We had one through winter break.
In October one grade level qualified for another teacher, but the district didn't have any applicants available to fill the position. We never did gain that one.

We had one leave, unavoidably, and there was no one to fill the position.
