Yes, speech-language pathology is an excellent field!

This might be a Michigan program? Designed to pay for school to "retrain" the unemployed for high-demand careers / vocations.

I want to re-enter the teaching profession after ten years of being out of the game, but every application asks the question about whether or not I have not been rehired. Well, obviously I wasn't rehired for my first teaching position. Let's just say my principal and former supervisor weren't my best fans. But that was ten years ago and I have matured a great deal since then and I want to focus on being the best teacher I can this time around. How do I navigate through this process?

Ten years ago, my first year of teaching, I had an intern credential (aka:toilet paper). I was not rehired that year at my elementary school job, and I was so green that, not knowing or comprehending otherwise, on my edjoin profile/ application, under "Reason for Leaving", I wrote that that my "contract ended", which was essentially true. I was hired to be cannon fodder for one year in a failing school. In the years since, on applications, I've never said that I've been non-reelected, and no HR Ogre/Ogress one has ever contradicted me. If one resigns, (before admin fires/non-reelects,) it's possible that might affect your ability to qualify for unemployment benefits. I've never tested the theory, but I might try it this year.

Ah...why do you think they're not allowed to say anything negative?
