Yeah, there were a lot of things you could poke holes in. It was an entertainment production that just took you for a ride, made you suspend your disbelief. Made most people sympathize with Walt, with his circumstances.

There was a letter by Anthony Hopkins to Cranston, praising the production. It may be worth reading:

I didn't think I would like it, but after a few episodes, it really drew me in. The acting was some of the best I've ever seen and I really like how all the good and bad of each character was portrayed. The finale episode was perfect. I would love to see an equally well made sequel that centered around Jesse.
