I found tutoring to be too much work. Not only did it take away my two hours (average) of planning after school, the worst part was when I had a sick day, personal day, inservice at another building, the tutoring was always there as this extra thing I had to take care of. I had to beg another teach to cover and I think they resented that.

When we'd be at inservice at another building and have a sub in our regular classroom, the other staff would go to their cars laughing and celebrating and head home. I'd have to head back to my school and tutor!

And let's face it, as a teacher there are days where you've just had it when those children go home. I try to allow myself one "had it" day a week where I leave right when contract time ends. When I tutored I couldn't allow myself "had it" days.

I also began to resent having to plan for tutoring. It truly felt like a second job.

What are you teaching?

I agree with the part tutoring being an extra thing.

You have to plan in advance
