Is there a reason why you are set on teaching in NY? There are teaching jobs, but you may have to move.

This may not be the case for you, but so often people complain not being able to find a teaching job are ones who could move and get a teaching job. I went to school with people who graduated and subbed for years in a small district waiting for that one spot to open up. They weren't married. Didn't have kids. The only reason they waited so long was because they didn't want to move away from mommy and daddy.

If that were the case, you would not have started this thread...

Easy solution.

Pack up our clothes and move out/on.

How much does your current job pay? Make a budget for rent, utilities, phone, heat/AC, car, insurance, medical care, clothing and entertainment and go for it.

Leap and your wings will appear. No more problems with mom and dad telling you to become a teacher. Follow your current career path and live happily ever after.

Their house their rules, their money their rules. Get your own place to live and your own money and decide what you want to do. You say it's not an issue? For you or for them. Maybe it is an issue for them and it bothers them.

They are probably just as frustrated watching you throw opportunities away, i.e. the military.

Trust me, it's a farce. Not all jobs are posted and for many of them, they already know who is going to fill them. It was like that when the jobs were advertised in The New York Times Education section. The exception is NYC where you just have to navigate their system.

True enough, but sometimes there are a variety of reasons why a person can't move away from their family. Are the parents o.k. with him leaving the area? Then, that would be the best solution. I think they are pushing teaching on their son because not all that long ago, it was considered a very steady job with a great deal of financial security for the future. It's changed a lot over the past few years and the parents may not be aware of that. Older teachers are grandfathered in the system so that is where the parents may be getting their information from, but new hires are no longer eligible for that free family healthcare plan as part of their retirement package, no pension contributions, etc.

Like I said, the website covers ALL of New York State and not just NYC. There's 733 school districts in NYS plus private schools. Schools in my part of the state ARE hiring. Some districts have a hard time getting teachers because they're not large cities. These jobs are NOT advertised in The New York Times.

Your issue was resolved in just a few days? Did you kill your parents? They get hit by a bus? You ran away from home?
