There are students for whom emotional connection with teachers just does not happen - it is not a question of the teacher, but the student, in those cases.

Indeed, they may be less likely to learn from the charismatic teacher and believe that nobody else is, either.

It takes a person with a special smile, a special voice, and a personable character to teach effectively. There is definitely a difference in just teaching and then of course teaching!

I find the smiles on their faces, the wrinkle right beside their eyes, and the excited handwriting to be the best part. When I know they have the answer to a question, and cannot wait to get it out....it makes me feel like a competent, worthy person.

Any real teacher knows how I feel and will have a warm spot in their heart for exactly the things I'm talking about...

Nope. I think it takes something special to be a good teacher. But to teach and/or choose teaching as a profession - some people like to teach, some like to pontificate, some like the security of teaching as a career, some like the schedule - and on and on . . . just depends.

Yeah, I guess you brought some reality to this...lol. There are, of course, people who would love to teach but do not like the schedules, pta meetings, and having to deal with demanding principals....so on and so on.

Again, it takes a special person to teach because of all the things it entails. If you can handle all of that, and still remain devoted to the kids, and there is positive progress, you -are- a special person.
