Well, just doing a quick Google search - Buford Pusser was born there.

Other than that - I can't find anything. Sorry!

blessings, Shen

Two stories pertaining to the name of Finger, TN. 1) They were trying to figure out where to place the county seat on a map. They all got close to this one spot, but didn't really like the idea of the seat being there, so they decided to name it "Finger" instead. 2) One of the first or most respected members of the area was Dr. John (?) Finger. I tend to believe the last one more.
Finger used to be a rather large community, where candidates gave speaches gathering hundreds of people. There was a railroad depot, before my time, a cotton gin, 2 nice grocery stores, a bank, sevice station, several churches, and there is still a "square dance" on Friday nights that attracts people from over 50 miles away!
You also forgot to mention, or I didn't find in the search, "Sweet Lips", "Leapwood", "Frog Jump", "Saragorda" and there are a lot of other strange names in TN.
Buford Pusser was actually born closer to Leapwood than Finger

Crump is almost certainly the surname of a landowner or business person who was in the area - maybe related to former Memphis mayor E.H. "Boss" Crump....

I mostly remember the Whittens at the squaredance. But there were others, I just can't remember their names.
About Crump, I don't know where they came up with the name, but I went to the cemetery at Pickwick and saw a lot of "Crump's" buried there.
And the posts on "Buford Pusser", did you know that McNairy County would not let it be filmed here because they were afraid it would "ruin their reputation"!! So, it move the next county over and was filmed mainly in Chester Co. And his big stick was a baseball bat that my dad saw on several occasions, not a small tree!
