Question Anyone who can help us??

We are a family relocating to TN in just a few short weeks. My husband has been laid off since November and jobs are few here. Although we know it looks bad in a lot of area's, we made a careful decision to put our trust above and make this move. We have been struggling for some time and feel it in the best interest to try to start a new life for them in TN for many different reasons. TN being our pick because we hear the people alone are genuine, the churches are plentiful, the area is beautiful. We just want to give our children a chance to grow up in a place like TN. One area we have been looking at is the Rockwood area. If anyone has any suggestions (opinions appreciated) we would be so greatful. My husband has a few places in that area he is checking on employment. We are from a pretty small, quiet area in OH. We don't want to live in the city for the simple fact that we've never lived in a big city and we enjoy the outdoors, country setting. (Even though we would like to be close enough to an area if we would choose to explore some attractions) Thank you for any information.

The only jobs I know of right now are in cities. If you're looking for inexpensive living in the country, your option is basically starve or make a long drive for your commute to work, which is what I do. When we came up here we fell in love and bought our home. We went home and told the kids to pack and on May 5, 2006 we pulled into our driveway.

We came up with a job offer my husband had. But after he got here and they did his medical / physical and found out how serious his condition was he was told they couldn't offer him the job after all and we found ourselves with no income, a mortgage, 2 car payments and 5 teens.

It took me several months to find a job. If it weren't for his parents supporting us totally in that time, we'd have been homeless and starving. I wouldn't ever suggest anyone move to any place without a job or money in the bank.

I wish you all the luck moving here if it's what you want. It's the best thing we ever did. We fit in here perfectly and have never been happier. But it was a nightmare that first year or so.

It's good to hear that it worked out for you. The plan is to actually have work before we make the move...so hopefully. There just seems to be so many more opportunities there for our kids and us as a family. And like I said, we have heard so many good things about the people and their positive attitudes and lifestyles. Thank you so much for your time.

Do you have any specific region narrowed down? Are you set on Rockwood? How about work - are you in a set career field? With more info, maybe we can help ya along!

Mrs 1885 is correct. Ten minutes out of Knoxville it is very rural. Start looking here for jobs. Knoxville News Sentinel: Local Knoxville, Tennessee News Delivered Throughout the Day.

I live in West Tenn. I would recommend going to Middle or East TN if that tells you anything.

WOW..Thanks..I Honestly wasn't sure what kind of response I would get putting myself out there like that. We sure do appreciate it! My husband has Concrete Block Plant experience, Forklift, Sandblasting, Industrial Spray Painting, Manufacturing and Production. I will also look for work once we are settled and the kids are in school. I've been a homemaker for a lot of years other than being a nurse aid and cleaning homes private. We have been on Indeed and CareerBuilder, sites like that sending resumes. We aren't set on Rockwood..that just looked like a smaller town in which, like I said, we are nervous about moving to a bigger city but we are open for any suggestions that anyone might have. We are basically just looking things up on-line to check out the area's and jobs. Thanks Everybody for all your support!

My husband is a hard working man and we are very honest, respectable people not excpecting to be carried or for a free ride. We just want to get out there and provide an Awesome life for our kids..the best that we can anyways. And we choose Tennesse to do that. It makes it so much easier to have response from good people like you! Thanks

I'm from a tiny town, too. Lived there for 34 years. Then I moved to Florida which I did not like, so I decided to move the family to TN.

We did the same thing as you in 2005. I started out looking in small towns, too, but rapidly realized that it was going to be tough finding jobs. Even back then Knoxville had the highest amount of jobs.

Once we got here we rented in a very rural area, about 12 minutes to downtown. But, in the long run, I bought our house in city limits. Knoxville has the feel of a town. The people are very friendly and down-to-earth and everyone knows everyone, it seems.

Not only is Rockwood tiny, but it is fairly isolated. Unless you can get a job there it is going to be tough.
