Longhorn Steakhouse is now open on S. Jefferson Ave. as well...
It didn't make the list.

Yeah that list needs to be updated. It also doesn't have:
-Burger King on East Spring
-Moogies BBQ House
-Puleo's
-Ruby Tuesday
-Sebastian's French restaurant
-Sonic in Algood
-Subway in Algood (both locations)
-Taiko sushi and noodlery
-Wendy's on North Willow
-Zaxby's
And those are just the restaurants I remember from the last time I was in Cookeville a couple of months ago. They'll have a lot of catching up to do when Hooters, Olive Garden, Panera, and TGI Friday's open.

Oh, the stress of it all!
The number of restaurants in Cookeville is amazing! What a great city! We enjoy the “feel” of living in Monterey, but Cookeville is a genuinely cool place.
It’s not without its problems, though. Today we got in our first traffic jam at Jackson and Willow at about 5:05 PM. Almost all of Aerosmith’s Sweet Emotion played before we finally got through the light; it was awful. It was so awful we went back through it after we were finished shopping, but this time only about half of Creedence’s Green River was done by the time we got through the light. I don’t know if I can take the stress! We probably won’t go back there again—until Friday.

Great music, too!! Hey if you're going to be stuck in a traffic jam (such as it was), at least you've got some good music.

Music has kept me in a mental state that closely resembles sanity.
For 7 years I worked for a company in Kent, WA (part of the humongous Seattle Metro area). I had to travel on Highway-167. I’m confident that a short-term study by pros would reveal this as the absolute worst highway in America for traffic congestion. I lived 17 miles from my office. On my trip in to work I usually got through 3 complete CDs (about 30 minutes each). The trip home was always worse. I usually played classical (Baroque era) music on the way home. I have many Mozart and Beethoven CDs that go about 70 minutes each. Many times I got through 2+ CDs!

That is insane! I mean the traffic is insane, not your choice of music. Many a times some good baroque or Debussy is all it takes to calm my savage nerves when I feel road rage coming on.
I guess going down the mountain from Monterey to Cookeville isn't long enough to listen to much of a CD. But maybe sitting in the parking lot while your wife shops gives you more time...?

Since you and another nice member of the forum introduced me to the 70N route, that's the one we try to take as often as possible. If that drive through that gorgeous pastoral scenery doesn't calm a person, then maybe only pharmaceuticals will do the trick.
Man, do I spend a lot of time in parking lots! My wife’s favorite store is Hobby Lobby partly—well, mostly SHE says—because of her business, and so that parking lot is popular. A great side benefit is that Perk-Up is in the same one! I recently decided to track the amount of time on one of her sprees in Hobby Lobby. I played In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida three, yep, that's right, 3 times! But I don’t mind listening to that great music—AND—I got to walk over to Perk-Up and get another latte from a superb barista (every bit as good as any I’ve known in Seattle).
We haven’t done much eating out since we’ve been here, maybe four times so far and all in Cookeville, but after my son gets here this Fall I know we’ll be doing quite a bit more because he’s not much into eating in.

One who's been on 70N will ever then remember when!
JMT,
This is off topic for this thread, but look what I stumbled on while researching another subject:
Tennessee Code 54-17-114. Designated scenic highways . . . , (a)(2)(F) The portion of U.S. Highway 70 North beginning east of Cookeville at the Falling Water Bridge and extending approximately five (5) miles toward Monterey through the Dry Valley Community and ending at the Sand Springs Community;
It’s 5 miles of highway that’s prime picture-postcard material!
