Smile Looking for a nice mountain spot to live around Gatlinburg

My family and I are planning a move to the Great Smoky Mountain area the first part of next year. We love Gatlinburg and all of Sevier County actually. So, we'd like to find somewhere near there, yet not too far from Knoxville, so my husband & I can both commute to jobs there for the higher pay. We'd like to be in the mountain area rather than the valley, somewhere that gets a good bit of snow during the winter months, and a quiet small-town sort of atmosphere. We live in rural MS currently, and the nearest house to ours is about 1/2 mile away, so if we could find something like that possible in the Gatlinburg area it would be great. Also, we plan to drive up in our RV and stay for a little while, until we can find a house & close on it. Any info on RV resorts or parks that offer extended stay sites at a reasonable rate would be great, preferably less than $600 a month. Also, if anyone could tell me where the highest paying jobs in the area are in the industrial/manufacturing and clerical fields, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Miranda

Hello,
After reading your post it seems to me that Townsend might be a good fit for you?

Unfortunately, a lot of other folks who were looking for the same thing as you are already there. IOW, wherever you end up in or near the mtns. of Sevier County, you almost assuredly will have neighbors relatively close by.

Townsend is a very nice area but its low elevation (1036') means relatively little snow...then again, E. Tenn. doesn't get as much snow as we used to anyway. You may have to drive to Newfound Gap in the Smokies to find a big pile of the white stuff.

Some RV camping links that may be useful:

The way that you're going about your search, though, seem ideal and will probably result in your finding something you'll love. Best wishes and hope you enjoy your stay!

While Townsend itself gets very little snow, Cades Cove gets a decent amount during the winter. Of course, the gap gets more snow, but it's hard to get to the gap when there's a road-closure due to the snow. One of our favorite places to get up to the snow on the Townsend side of the park is up at Elkmont. Since the campground is closed in winter, there's great access to the snow to play around in.
