For whatever reason, it just didn't suit us as well as the Nashville area seems to. Anyway, I'm way off track! In Cleveland you'll find Cleveland State Community College and Lee University. Athens has Tennessee Wesleyan College and maybe others that I'm not familiar with. Chattanooga is a pretty easy commute if the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is of interest eventually for your son. I like that it's an easy drive to Atlanta, Knoxville, and Nashville from Cleveland. It definitely has a conservative feel there, especially compared to Nashville. Where do you live now? Would it be possible to come and visit the different areas for a bit?
I think that is what is so hard for us to decide. It's really a personal preference on things. And visiting a place has only showed us that we "like" all of Tennessee but trying to choose a certain area to spend the rest of our lives is difficult! We have visited different areas there but not for an extended time, but hadn't been to Cleveland yet. We are trying to not be real close to high traffic areas, we'd prefer a more laid back atmosphere instead of crazy traffic. I guess we'll figure it out somehow with more visits. We are about 500 miles away, so with us still working it's not a easy thing to make lots of visits. We've been working on this for a couple years now!
Thank you for your kind answers and your encouragement though.

He doesn't live with us and hasn't for about 3 years and isn't being supported by us financially at all because he didn't want to "conform". So out he went! When we move and if he chose to live near us, it would be just that...NEAR us, not with us. So that's why I was asking about work in these areas, so that he could work and when he gets his head together and sees that it takes more to make it in life, he can go to a trade school or something. Not all kids are easily reared. My daughter got it right away, my son is just taking a little longer.

Wow... without knowing us or our son wasn't that a little hard to come up with that?
Over the years I've come across a few questions that are similar to yours and they all had the adult child still living at home with them. This is completely different than the norm. Having said that, it's good to see you have a great grip on things.

If it helps, Knox County's unemployment rate is the lowest for the largest MSAs in the state. This is hot off the press. Knox Co. unemployment up, still lowest TN metroYour son will definitely want to find a job before moving, though. It's great that our rate is low but we were still affected by the recession. That's what I mean. He has an entirely different situation than yours and may or may not be able to pick up and move when you do. That's why in every other question similar to this the adult child was still living at home.

Cleveland is said to be the most vibrant area in the state for attracting business. You would know that if the moderator didn't move one of my posts from this general forum to the sub forum.

Thanks Laura. Your original post was moved where? To the Chattanooga sub forum? There is no Cleveland forum. I'm just glad that this thread made it's way back to my original question on Cleveland and not my child rearing abilities! lol!
Can you tell me if there is one side of Cleveland area that is more economical in prices of homes and properties or even a safer "side" of Cleveland or outlying areas? I have heard North but would that include NE and NW? Is the south outlying areas not good?
