There an excellent wood carver at the Applachian Crafts Center near Clinton, just north of Knoxville. It's across the street from the Museum of Appalachia.
He's usually giving classes but I don't see him on the website. You'll need to contact them.

Smoky Mountain Woodcarvers would also be a good source of infomation.

And there's a woodcarving show coming up at Dollywood. Probably a good place to find a new bear.

Carver - I am looking for another bear actually. If you have some work you are interested in selling, please send me some pictures of your work. I look forward to seeing it!
Knoxgarden - Thanks for the post also.

Hey I have seen those carvers around the state, you just have to find one set up one day.
They caome and go as inventory allows.
The 'shop' bears are way more expensive.

Griz,
Over in West Knox there is a store called Woodcraft, they give classes for carvers. Give them a call and tell them your request, they may be able to put you in touch with a carver.
Carver36- Nice work!

Thank for the update. I just got back from Bryson City, NC and saw some amazing work there, unfortunately, I didn't take any pics of the carvings. I did get some excellent fall foilage shots that I'll post in a day or so.
