Question police academy graduate needs job

Hi there, I am graduating next week from the East Tn Regional Police Academy in Greeneville, TN. I have a wife and kids, so its important to find a job ASAP. We will move to anywhere in TN. Anyone know of police depts that need certified officers with no actual police work experience?

Try Monterey Police Dept in Monterey, TN. It's located on the beautiful cumberland plateau. They are rebuilding their police dept. I am not sure if they are still hiring or have already filled all the spots, but we would love to have you if they are. Have you tried the tri-cities area since you are close to there?

Congrats! Try City of Maryville, City of Alcoa, Blount County, City of Kingsport. Also, here is a link to a list of cities in TN. This may help give you ideas on where to look to apply. Good luck!

I tested for a position with the Davidson County Sheriffs Office (non-law enforcement) about a year ago. There were 10 openings and they said 1,100 people showed up to test.

Most were graduates or prior LEO/Corrections.

It's tough but good luck !

There are two really good websites for police info.

officer.com and police1.com

If you go to officer.com and click the forums link and then local discussion, you will get pretty current info on what is going on in your area.

Hope this helps. I wish you well with the job search. The loss of private sector jobs in the last few years has really created a big demand for the civil service type jobs and the competition has become very intense. Make sure you are in top physical condition and practice your oral board questions/answers.

This may be a long shot since I'm not from TN but I have been a LEO for 31 years and If I were looking now, I would give a close look around Chattanooga. I say this due to the growth that is likely to take place in that area with VW and other companies locating close by.

On the other hand, after visiting family near Chattanooga and traveling between there and Knoxville, my wife and I found we really like the Maryville/Knoxville area.

I would try Knoxville and/or Knox County.

Knox County still has a better unemployment rate, even with VW's hiring in Chattanooga.

Knoxville advertises for police officers in the classifieds about every week. Try them. Good luck.
