There are more jobs in Nashville, period. Chattanooga and Knoxville both have amazing natural amenities. Knoxville's Ijams Nature Center is right near downtown, but the News-Sentinel just announced they're laying off 40? 50? workers. Honestly, when I was reading your post Asheville, NC kept popping into my head. There are lots of city amenities there and many local and home-grown initiatives that involve wildlife, the natural environment, conservancy, etc. The city is full blown liberal but lots of the surrounding area is pretty laid back. Just another suggestion.

Asheville is an interesting idea. I've considered it too. The only question I've had with the place is its size. It isn't really comparable to the other three right?

Based on your age and the things you enjoy I would strongly consider northern California, the Pacific Northwest (including Portland and Seattle), or even the Denver/Boulder area. You mentioned some of these cities in your original post. Good luck to you.

Also consider in any Tennessee town, no state income tax. On top of that, low property tax, low housing prices and the cost of living is outstanding here! Plus, we don't have all those frufru taxes like California keeps making up.

Many thanks Blue. I have been looking through and am very interested in the city. Seems great (in comparison to Statesboro, Georgia what wouldn't?? ha). Plus, it's close enough to Atlanta to take in occasional Braves/Falcons/Hawks games. If only a job surfaced, it'd be a no-brainer.

Barefoot, be sure to keep watching for volkswagon to open up positions for the addtional car they will be manufacturing here. It may not be want you want to do for a career, but it will give you living money to eventually move into your career. In the meantime you can enjoy the town! Also keep and eye on the government positions

It's also close enough you can take in a hockey game in Nashville and be back in time to get a few hours sleep in and back to work in the morning. Which is what i did last night! Go Predators!
