There is a wal mart in Jamestown and a small grocery in clarkrange.
One thing to keep in mind is with a rural community you get rural people. If I remember correctly you are more "progressive" in your thoughts towards animals and whatnot so dont be surprised when the locals dont share your ideas.
You should really visit before seriously buying a house there.

oh i wont be buyign untill i visit, and im NOT worried about other peoples opeions on the "progressive" stuff...im a very live and let live kind of gal, (and suffer from agoraphobia and social anxiety lol) so unless someone else brings it up, i doubt anyone would ever know my animal care, religious or sexual preferences...
it would be nice to make firends locally, but if they dont ASK for my opinion, i dont give it...i expect comments about why they wouldnt see me in church and thats fine as long as it doesnt turn into a good old fashioned witch burning...

i know people in the south tend to be friendly BUT opinionated themselves...and im ok with that as long as its not the ONLY thing people talk about...id much rather sit around a little fire pit with drinks and yummy food and LIVE than worry about what joe schmoe down the street thinks...or is doing in his own back yard...

as long as im not going to get my animals taken away because i dont vacinate every year, or get hauled to the loonie bin for raw feeding the dogs, ect...

I think you will be just fine. Most people really do keep to themselves and are friendly when passing. I hope you do visit Clarkrange when you visit Deer Lodge. It's all a beautiful area.

You may get a lot of eye rolls but you will be fine. I have seen some ppl that moved to a rural area and were shocked and appalled. I think everyone should know what they are getting into. Most rural areas are not Mayberryish. I find it difficult to hold my tounge sometimes and Ive been here over 30 yrs.

You may find some that will equate Pagan/Wiccan with satan worshiping witches. I had the displeasure of listening to that conversation once. Thought Id chew my tounge off.

When you get ready to sit around the fire pit and drink come on over. Ill try to keep the Christians quiet. LOL.

LOL!!!

yeah ive noticed alot of people considering moves south (to tn and elsewhere) who just seem delusional...

you hear people talk about wanting to be rural but then cant be naymore than 10 minutes walk from the store and needs movie theaters and malls and excelent schools and tonnes of public utilities...all for cheaper than dirt and low taxes...

i hear it here alot too, people telling me they want to move to florida or north carolina ect because "its cheaper" then complaining because it wasnt some idealistic little town theyd seen on some tv show in the 60's.

my faves are the wonderfull people that move to the country then complain about the smell of farm animals or the sounds of roosters...

i will admit id be a little miffed if i had to deal with guns shooting all the time at 3am, or dogs barking all night long...
but the point of living RURAL is to be far enough away from your neighbor that you dont realy hear that stuff...
and when you buy rural your buying a lifestyle, your in the middle of nowhere, your NOT getting all the amenities of a city...i mean for goodness sake for $200 a year in taxes for a nice house on a good amount of land...how many public amenities do your realy think your gonna get!?

so i aboslutly understand the warnings, too many people think all these rural areas are filled with these idealistic tv towns, and its just not how it is...
and thats ideal for me lol.

The attitude towards animals, especially dogs was frustrating for me. I was into dog rescue and there is a real need in TN.
