Cookeville is an hour or hour and a half from the Nashville airport (located on the east side of Nashville a stones throw from I-40), depending on where exactly you live. We live out in the county but 15 - 20 minutes from a Walmart, 20 - 25 minutes to Lowes and about the same from great non chain restaurants that will not erode your pocketbook.

As for security, we only lock our doors at night and that is just out of years of habit. But our house is completely private and a lot of people, even in our community, don't know the house is here as you can't see it from the main road.

If you use air travel much at all I'd suggest you use the Nashville airport. Southwest airlines seems to keep prices down. We get better prices than any place we have ever lived.......and that's a lot of places, believe me.

Best of luck.
Cookeville is an excellent suggestion. And if the OP lives in the western part of Putnam County (Baxter, pop. 1500) the Nashville airport is less than an hour away. It's actually 70 interstate miles from the airport exit to the first Cookeville exit, so it would be a tad less from Baxter.

I've never been to Cookeville but an awful lot of people on this forum swear by it. Sounds like it's worth a look.

i will definatly add cookeville to the looky list , i too have heard very good things about the area.

unfortunatly my budget is miniscule, under $40,000...yes i KNOW i wont be getting much ANYWHERE for that kind of money, but ive seen a few that might work for me. im also looking at HUD homes
but i will definatly expand the search radius to include cookeville thank you

Are you going to need high-speed internet due to that job? That's a possible problem for you. With that budget you may end up in the hinterlands without high-speed internet.

i need internet acess, high speed is preferable, but i know thats hard to find anywhere in tn outside of the bigger cities...so ill take dial up if i have to.
im very lucky, my work is incredibly flexible. as long as i can get online...speed itself isnt too much of a big deal. and i am looking for rural so i have already prepared myself that internet might be sat based and very spotty at best.

Foxy, If your going to be scouting around the Cookeville area, you can camp in my yard if you dont mind being as far as up on the Plateau.
