We are considering moving to Oneida, from the west coast. Any information you can give us on your town would be wonderful. Pros, and cons of this town, vs. any around it?

Most importantly-- any information on the school system, would be great. Our kids are in elem, middle, and h.s. (one in each)---thanks so much!

The recreational opportunities, look wonderful!

Oneida is in Scott County, one of the poorest counties in Tennessee. The poverty level is very, very high at about 21 percent with over 26 percent of those poverty-stricken under the age of 18. Unemployment is the highest in the state at 23 percent. This is a very small town with limited funding. Often, given those circumstances, students will be under-served and have a difficult time with continuing education.

Regions of the country can be very different from each other. A small town in one area may not have the challenges of a rural area in another region.

Oneida is a great place for the outdoor enthusiast, being next door to Big South Fork Recreational Area, one of America's best kept secrets. But the economic picture is not pretty even though the cost of living is only about 80% of the national average.
