yes I'm sorry I should have been more specific
I went to newport, to cades cove, townsend, seiverville(sp) of course gatlinburg, pigeon forge.
and drove all around away from the touristy places then we went through to cherokee
we got away from the tourists places like parts of newport and talked to the locals, some were hesitant nothing wrong with that
Loved it there I did notice a lot of costruction around and I hope it doesn't get out of hand built up etc with folks moving in like it did to south floridas, new hampshire etc

I just bought some land in Newport. Funny you mention FL and N.H. I was born and lived in N.H. for 18 years and now in FL for 13 years moving to TN in another 5. It is beautiful a beautiful area in East TN. The people are very friendly for the most part. We've met a few grumps but it may have just been a bad day for them. We can't wait to move.

I'm sort of following you
not from massachusetts but lived there for a bit and escaped live in florida but see florida changing like NH has a little but nothing like southern florida we did look at TN but with three kids it would be hard for them like schools, friends etc
agree about east TN it is beautiful country lets just hope it doesn't become trendy like florida and changes

The 5 year plan, I know it well!
DF - Are you actively building on your property now, or just beginning the clearing process? Where we bought our lot, the sales agent recommended that we begin clearing it so that you can start imagining how you want your home to sit. It will have a lakeview, but that is hardly visible right now. I think it's a good idea.
Another recommendation was to do the clearing in the winter when you can see what trees to remove and which ones to keep.
5 years and you can't wait to move...isn't that going to be a long 5 years?

We're just doing the clearing process. Just bought it in March and just cleared out our driveway last trip we did in July so we now have access to the top of the hill where our property is. The only real trees we have to clear for our home are some Cedar Trees. We already have our home pictured in our mind sitting on the side of the hill looking out at this view. . [IMG] [/IMG]
If i wasn't worried about my daughters special education (she's blind in public school right now doing great) we'd make the move sooner than 5 years but i want her to finish school here. In the mean time, we plan to get the power and water lines up to the property, the septic in and maybe even right before the move start the foundation started so we'll be that much ahead when we do make the move. It won't seem too long as we'll be at least doing something with the land to prepare it for a home rather than letting it sit there.

That is just breathtaking! It really is beautiful. Let's just say, I have a little more clearing to do than you!
Good luck and I look forward to seeing your future posts as you make progress on your property.

Well you didn't get the view of our back property. That's where we have 4 acres of thick wooded and blackberry bushes everywhere but nothing we need to worry about for building.
