Jackson Possibility
Well I'm new to the forums, hello everyone!! I live in a small town in NW Tennessee, Paris, some of you may be familiar with it. I am currently trying to sell my home and considering buying one, I'm looking for something on the "cheaper" side and found a few possibilities in Jackson, but I'm not really familiar with it, I know.. I live HERE but not familiar with Jackson, shame on me, hehe. Jackson isn't a firm choice, just sort of exploring my options, really. I've been looking online and found a certain home that said it's located in "Jackson W Central", is this a good or bad location? Are there any parts of the town that you would or wouldn't recommend? Any tips or HONEST advice would be greatly appreciated. And I look forward to posting around the forums.

I'm a Jackson native. I grew up in East Jackson and moved in 2001.
I've never really heard anyone describe a "West Central" area. If I had to guess, it would probably be an area west of downtown, near Lambuth University over to the 45 Bypass. If you can give me a street name I probably can give you a better description.
Areas to avoid:
All of east Jackson. Additionally, stay away from anything near the following streets: E. Chester, Royal, Hays, Lexington, Airways (in the city), and Hollywood. These are very low income areas and have rampant drug and violence problems.
Recommended areas:
Beech Bluff/Mifflin: This is in the country, to the east of Jackson, but it's not that far out.
3-Way/Median: Similar to the above, but a little more upscale.
Here are some of the other areas I like: near Hidden Valley Golf Course, near the YMCA/Campbell St., Country Club Ln, and Ramblewood subdivision behind North Side High School.
Let me know if there are any other things I can help out with. I'll give you my honest opinion.

Jackson native here, too.
'W Central' is sometimes used to describe the Lambuth University area, as the previous poster noted. That area is a mixed bag. My undergrad degree is from Lambuth, and I grew up in the Lambuth area. There's a strong neighborhood association in the area (LANA) that is working diligently to improve some of the more blighted streets. Any idea which street the house is on?

I'm not a Jackson native, as a matter of fact I've never lived in Jackson. I am however spending the next four years of my life there, starting next august, because I'm going to Lambuth!! yay! My sister goes there now, so I am pretty familiar with the area around the university. Its very mixed. One block will be nice, the next could be completly ghetto. It's relatively obvious what areas are nice and which arent, based on the upkeep of homes, etc... The area over by Union U is newer, and a bit more expensive, but its nicer and safer
