Nightshift is on a distinguished road
Default City Personality

I live in Chattanooga and want to move to Nashville I think. I am originally from Michigan. I have lived in Chattanooga for about 12 years. The problem is if you weren't born here you don't belong here. I have made about 2 friends in the 12 years that I have been here. Lived in Florida for about 6 years had friends there, and raised in Michigan and had friends there. My first reaction is it me? My daughter being raised by two northern parents doesn't have the slang and doesn't seem to fit it with some. Some of the kids actually snub her. Don't want her to grow up like I feel now. I am a friendly person and have tried to reach out but to no avail. I love TN and the way of life. Great place to raise kids if you can break in, othewise it is pretty lonely. Chattanooga seems to be a little lower income here. I was hoping Nashville is different. It seems a little more diverse, hip and more opportunities, ie jobs, attractions, restuarants as well as parks, places to go as well as some country side. What I am wondering is what are the people like. Do they have the same mentality as the people in Chattanooga do? A bunch of hillbillys in Chattanooga and don't want to move to the same situation.

Hey, first let me say i am not from Tn, but we are going there next week to look just right outside og Chattanooga, obviously your post bothers me. As I am wanting to meet friend there as well. I am living in FL now and really do not have but one close friend and I have been here for 5 years. If you are still up there I'll be your friend, lol! But other than the unfriendliness, is it nice? I have now been reading about the cancer-causing pollutants from the TVA (electic power industry) there and that makes me worry. My husband has interviews at several body shops there next week, so I shouldn't feel like backing out and don't want to...but I NEED SOMETHING GOOD TO HEAR, lol!

Default Personalities

I was born and raised in FL. I am in E. TN now, just outside Knoxville. Been here 3 years and still feel like an outsider. No close friends and no one I would really want to just hang out with anyways. I am married with kids as well. Would like to move back to FL but it looks like Spring, TX may be the best compromise for us.

alikateshan- I think "all my life" explains your point of view.

In Tennessee, it helps a lot to be born into a family that has connections. You can compensate somewhat for your alien DNA by becoming a bible-thumpin' baptist who loves nascar and the vols.

Y'all need to become part of the redneck collective.

There, you just said the key words darlin'...you've been there all your life.

Makes a differnce. It's a shame from one southerner to the next (just 2 states lower) Floridians have to feel like outsiders. I like the people of Tennessee and that's why alot of us choose this state, cause we think it would be a nice place to meet and hang with you all....

Thumbs up Can't wait to get to middle TN!

I think anytime you relocate to a new area it is sometimes difficult to meet people and make friends. However, it also depends on personality and attitude. Thank you for your comment, alikateshan! I'm moving to middle TN from Louisiana, so I can't wait to get up there and meet the wonderful people there.

I think you will adore it here. I can also speak from my native Michigan father, who now fits in like a nice worn pair of jeans! He loves it here, hates the humidity, but loves the people. I live in Houston Co, and it is great here...cheap...near the water...small schools...hmmm better quit trying to get people here...ha ha ha!

I was born and raised in Chattanooga and true it helps to have connections here but slowly it seems there are more outsiders moving in and creating a name for themselves....Now surrounding counties- give them about 20 more years!

I am just concerned with the quote above about cancer and TVA and wish I could find out more- I know we had a problem in the past with pollution but I thought it had gotten much better.....

I would like to find out more about this also.

Perhaps angelbee, or someone could give a 'link' to this info
