I just bought an old log cabin and it was re-c h i n k ed 3 years ago and looks great. The carpenter bees and woodpeckers are not a problem if wood sealed. Yes they will require more maintenance, but 8" of wood is so quiet and energy efficient.

Talking Log Homes

Bubba here,

Yes, I can testifiy that log homes are more expensive, harder to refinance and heavy maintenance items. Surveyor in the area had one and hated it. In his own words "every pestilance known to man attacked it". He had to spary non-enviormentally friendly spray to get rid of it. He told me do not build a log home. I also got some realistic prices for them and was quoted as high as $220 per sq ft. That is too high for the area. I'm going with brick and stone (stone in TN. is cheap and will hold up under any weather conditions (almost)). Good Luck!

Default Additional Note

More dust and some allergies have been associated with log homes.
