I went to the Irish celebration in Erin several years ago and I have to say I was really disappointed. I guess I was expecting too much, but it was a very long trip for me and it just didn't live up to my expectations. They had a few food trailers with some traditional "Irish" food and they had a parade. I think it is more of a tradition just for that town and it's not much of a draw for outsiders. Like I say, it has been several years ago (approx 10) and they may have added more interesting attractions since then.
NOTE: Erin was a lovely little town and I have nothing against it, I am just giving my opinion of the Irish celebration from an outsiders point of view.

The Irish Celebration is scheduled for March 18th. Erin is a tiny little town with lots of family heritage. The families that are there......have been there since the early settlers. For those who are looking for a grand festival, as produced by larger cities, I wouldn't hold your expectations too high. This is primarily a celebration of heritage, and over-coming the most difficult struggles that any of us in this day and age could ever imagine. The history of this tiny town is just amazing, which sheds a new light on why they love to celebrate this holiday.

I live in Erin and have been in the parade almost every year up until 2002. If you live here; you love it. You see people you haven't seen in years because they all flock back here. It is a great little celebration, and it is the 3rd Saturday in March every year. If you come; have a great time!

The schools here are small which allows for one on one time with the students. If you come into the community, you are pretty easily accepted. Everything is not too small that it is inconvenient. We are about 30 mins from wal-mart, and 45 min from Clarksville that has all the malls and theaters. It is such a great town. So great that it had grown on me so much that I wasn't happy anywhere else. Everything is cheap, and it is just a fun place to live.
Also, the Irish celebration was fantastic, and my kids had a wonderful time with the parade and carnival!

Social worker opportunities: The ninth largest behavioral health organization in the US, Centerstone, has a regional office in Clarksville. At the time I retired in 2004, they also had a small part-time office in Erin.

There is also a huge one, Frontier Health in Kingsport TN and they usually have adds in the paper, about twice a month, looking for qualified social workers.
