Goodyear plant in Union City,TN
So what is the deal with the Goodyear Plant in Union City. I hear rumors here and there that they keep talking about closing. However, they are hiring people left and right and they just invested in some new equipment. What about the strike last year. Is that all resolved. Looking into the possiblity of moving to the area and working there, but not sure what to think.

I work at the local G'year plant. I haven't seen any new equipment brought in since 2001. If you arre thinking of moving here, I wouldn't count on working at Goodyear, They are hiring (for $13 to start) but could change at any time. The company and union are still working on a local contract (the master will be up in 18 months). Rumors about closing the plant have been flying for a number of years, but they haven't been true (yet).

While this doesn't relate to the Goodyear Plant, I'm having a heck of a time trying to post and this just popped up!
What is it like living in Union City? I have been searching the Web for different places to live and found this city. Can someone tell me about it? Someone who REALLY lives there?

I was wondering if anyone can provide a update on Union City and the Goodyear plant. One of the previous posts indicated that the union contract would be coming around for renewal some time around now. Did it all get worked out?
I'm also interviewing for a job here and would be moving from another state...hoping to get some advice on the lay of the land to see if it's somewhere I want to move.
I'll be driving there here in a little while and am looking forward to see the area. Also, going to spend a week at Dale Hollow fishing for small and large mouth...looking forward to that a bit more...<grin>

Here's your answer. I googled it.
The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant in Union City is reducing its operating schedule from a seven-day continuous operation to five days.
Jimmy Cagle, manager of communications at the plant, said the impact on the work force will be determined in the coming weeks.
According to the Union City Daily Messenger, the reduction was attributed to the weak economy.
The 40-year-old plant, with an employment of 2,700, is already facing a loss of about 60 jobs this year.

If the union goes on strike. The doors on the Union City plant will be locked. All retirees are gone from the plant. The wages went from $25 to$13 and expecting to drop more. It is a matter of time.

I had passed all phases of the Goodyear interviews...i just went to my meet and greet on Thursday and had my tour of the plant and drug test and physical... my question is when i had my physical...the doctor asked me if i had any back problems and i was being truthful and told him i had a muscle spasm before (but i failed to tell him that it was a long time ago and i now do stretching to help)....will that disqualify me for possibly getting a job? as i have come this far and really really really need/want a job... and i am afraid that one thing i said about the muscle spasm from long ago may have screwed me up... any advice anyone????
