Cool Musicians moving from Miami Bch to Nash./or Suburbs

Background
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My situation is probably quite different than most Floridians "fleeing" Florida.

My band loves living in Miami Beach but we have decided to relocate to Nashville due to it's lower cost of living and central location to the eastern US. I also have a little Boston terrier that would LOVE to have a yard to run around in.

Right now we share a 700 sq. ft. 2 bedroom/2 bath split (that means no living room) on South Beach for $1200 a month. Our electric bill was $315 last month due to the incredibly inefficient but very common jalousy/louver windows we have.

Questions!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Alot of the houses in Murfreesboro seem to good to be true! It seems crazy to me that I might actually be able to afford a nice 3 bedroom (house! with yard!) for under $1000 a month. I makes me think there's something wrong with the town! Is there?

How is the job market there for administrative type work? I do accounting/admin/computer work part-time aside from my music.

Although most of our gigs are out of state, what's the safest place to live but still be within a reasonable (half hour-ish) drive to some nightlife?

Thanks!!

Hi Emily,

There is nothing wrong with Murfreesboro! It is a great place to work and live with very affordable housing. However, our continued growth is pushing housing prices higher each day. Murfreesboro was also just rated by CNN and Money Magazine as one of the Best Places to Live.

Murfreesboro is a college town so there is some nightlife and a few "adult" type music/restaurants that aren't geared toward the college crowd. You could also commute into Nashville for a bigger selection of nightlife.

The job market is strong here so you shouldn't have a problem finding employment. But again, you could always commute back into Nashville for more opportunities.

There is so much to do in this "little" city. If you want more information, feel free to email me.

Murfreesboro has a large hospital that is well equipped to handle almost any health crisis that might arise. MTMC is a division of St. Thomas Hospitals and can treat everything from child birth to bariactric and cardiac services, neurosciences, cancer, diagnostic and rehabilitation services, and of course, emergency room care. They even have a state of the art sleep center for insomniacs. In rare cases they will life flight to Nashville, but for most medical cases you would be treated in Murfreesboro.
