I have heard all the accolades about it and am planning to visit. Are there scenic routes (no doubt a loaded question from what i have read) you can just drive thru and stop and take pictures rather than hiking for an hour to get great shots?

Fall Creek Falls is much closer to Cookeville and Chattanooga than it is to Nashville, so I'm moving this thread to the general Tennessee forum.

At any rate, it is very easy to wander around FCF by car. There are several waterfalls in the park, and all are just a hundred feet or so from a parking lot. It's the most popular state park in Tennessee and for good reason. It's my personal favorite, too. I hope you have a wonderful time there!

Can you actually see them from the car? Or do you have to walk a little ways to see?

Tennessee State Parks: Fall Creek Falls
It's not a long walk, paved to the overlook on one of them, cann't remember about the other. It's been so dry it may be a trickle instead of a fall.

You have to get out of the car. There are three falls, two of them have paved trails leading to the overlook. The one by the main falls (Fall Creek Falls) is the easiest walk. The one by the nature center (Cane Creek Falls?) is the shortest walk, but there are steps involved. The third falls (I think it's called Piney Falls) has a dirt trail leading to the overlook, and it's a pretty steep trail.

From the car, however, you have gorgeous views of the gulf. It's a one-way road between the main falls and Piney Falls that offers some spectacular views along the way, all from the car if you don't feel like getting out.

By the way, the inn has a really good restaurant with a buffet that's worth the drive.

And, as Creekcat said, there may not be much water this time of year. When I went this time last year there was no water at all over Cane Creek Falls, the first time in the 30+ years that I've been going to FCF that I'd ever seen that. It was sad.

It's a scenic drive to it, thru it, and out of it
Yes, the falls are a slight walk, but not an hours hike at all. They are all close to a parking spot. You most definately need to get out by the nature center, get on the swinging bridge and look left. I believe that is the most photographed spot in the Falls area. its a great swimming spot too! It's where the water pools around huge rocks before it drops over an edge. Sorta of a "nook" if you will.

This is a great site too explore before you go to the Falls. Get a map and mark it where you came into the park. Very easy too get turned around and go out the wrong way.. A good pair of comfortable shoes and take your time..and enjoy the beauty
