Default Lake Norris - How Is It To Live There?

Trying to get some first hand information from folks that know what it's really like to live on Lake Norris.

The only comment I've seen repeated is that Lake Norris is "rural", I'm quite not sure what that means exactly from a locals standpoint?

Does it connect with any other lakes?

Are there any new devlopments there?

Is it a retirement spot versus an active lifestyle and vacation spot?

Is it mostly summer residents?

Does it connect with other lakes and river(s)?

A forum search here didn't produce much.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Default Lake Norris how is it to live there?

Same here, seeking specific info... By looking on the net have learned a lot about the regulation of the water at the Dam...pretty neat...and that it is the cleanest lake in Tenn. Thre are two state parks and a large public pool. Also, it is fed by 2 rivers. There is a portion of land for sale, the rest being held by TVA, "supposedly" not to be sold but I guess a lot of nice local folks in Tennessee can tell you that does not always follow. I do not know the whole scoop on people's land being taken though and then later sold for commercial but it did happen according to born and raised residents. Anyway, there is the Villages at Norris Lake being developed as we speak...no manufactured homes, no vinyl siding, only natural materials like stone and wood for only stick built homes-they are having a big open house weekend in September, a third of an acre is going for 80K which is the starting point. Until last weekend Rock Harbor at Lake Norris was selling off property. It seems to be much bigger than other lakes. Know one person who lives in the town of Norris and says it is lovely...people go to the post office to get their mail. Was it here that someone said the town was designed so that people would be able to intermingle. Supposedly the air quality is not different there than in Maryville foothills, although the water is crystal clear. tnx.

We're trying to figure out where the closest: shopping (all types); restaurants; medical facilities and entertainment is? Is there cable (no problem as long as DirecTV works), fast internet connection, trash pickup? Just how "rural" is it there? No mail delivery? What is the commute mileage/time to Knoxville? Is deveolpment there on a fast track?

Can anyone here kindly answer some questions?

Thank you.

There are MANY answers to your questions, and I have limited knowledge.

I cross Norris every day at the 33 Bridge near Tazwell. You can be to Mayanardville or Tazewell within about 20 minutes from that area...or Knoxville in about 40-45 minutes. There are several new developments going in.

Also, there are areas over near I-75 that would be about 30 minutes into Knoxville. We would have love to have lived up near or on the lake, but information on that lake is SCARCE...I know your feeling.

DirecTv should work, assuming you have a clear shot of the SW sky.

Norris is WAY low right now...I swear it goes down at least a foot a day. It's probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25' lower than "normal" pool right now.

There are over 700 miles of shoreline to Norris Lake. There is absolutely no way that anyone can answer your questions unless you narrow it down. You have access to the same maps that we do that show highways and towns, other lakes and rivers. You can get online and see what national chain restaurants and stores are located at the various towns around and near the lake.

Once you've narrowed down your parameters, people can give you more specific information. 700+ miles is a lot of shoreline to cover.

Here is basic info on Norris Lake
TVA: Norris Reservoir
And some on the city of Norris
The Planned Community of Norris, Tennessee
Beyond that, it's hard to say. It's a really, really big lake that covers multiple counties and areas. You can probably find just about anything around there from Tennessee rural (you need 4-wheel drive ATV to get within walking distance) to regular rural (20 minutes from a Walmart)

Hi,
Well I probably can answer most questions for you. We have a vacation home in the Deerfield development on the La Follette side of the lake. (Deerfieldresort.com) I spend most of the summer there with my wife and our 13 yr old son. Our primary residence is south Florida.
It is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains with very clear water and little boat traffic compared to most. Lakefront lots have become expensive over the last 5 - 7 years. Where it used to be 100K you now can spend upwards of $300,000 for a nice lot. Lakeview can still be had for well under $100,000.
We have found people to be very nice both at the lake where most are either vacationing or retired from Ohio as well as the local people in town.
We enjoy the area so much because it is so different from "home". It definetly is a different way of life.
Shopping for us is a 18 mile drive into Lafollette. There are grocery stores and a Super Walmart where most items can be had. If you are looking for a good restaraunt or upgraded shopping you need to head into Knoxville. Knoxville by the way is about 30 minutes from the La Follette exit off I 75. It depends where on the lake you are as to how long it takes to get to 75. For us it is about another half hour.
Yes there is a hospital in town and several options if you go to Knoxville. We don't have cable but use either antenna of Direct TV when we are there for a period of time. High speed internet is available in most locations.
If you have any addition questions, let me know. I would be happy to answer them if I can.
Art

One of the reasons you may not be getting much back doing a search is that it is actually Norris Lake -- as opposed to Lake Norris. That might help.
