Funny Tennessee names
OK, jabogitlu brought something to our attention that I think is worth pursuing: funny names in Tennessee.
Specifically, he was referring to Dumplin Valley, which is the name of the area off I-40 where the exit is located to get to Sevierville and Pigeon Forge.
Then I mentioned I hated the name of the road in East Knox County where I used to live: Huckleberry Springs Road. That and Dumplin Valley just sounded too cutesy fake, although it turns out they've been around for over 100 years.
Then jabogitlu mentioned Tater Peeler Road in Lebanon. I'm still laughing at that one.
So my question to everyone: what other funny names have you run across in Tennessee? I know we've talked about that on here before, but with all the new people in the forum, I think it would be fun to revisit this topic.

I always thought Pat Head Summitt's father's name was funny. His name was Richard Head. Think of the common nickname for Richard and you'll see why I thought it was funny.
There used to be a large building supply company in Clarksville (might still be there for all I know) named Orgain Building Supply. The owner was Harry Orgain. And no, I'm not making that up.
Now, if Richard and Harry had gotten together . . . uh, never mind.

Ooh, how fun! The best one off the top of my head is Rock Batter, a tiny community in Greene County. It's right near Greystone. Yep, you guessed it, the land is rockier than the Rocky Mountains!
Too bad we're not talking about North Carolina. My absolutely favourite funny name ever is Spill Corn near Sodom / White Rock / Shelton Laurel.

Great thread! Not far from here in N GA is Roach Hollow Road/Estates. From what I know the developer's last name was Roach but come on... LOL
Let's see in TN I am thinking TN City (could you get any more specific than that?), Spot (City), Porky Ln, Gassaway Rd and Huckleberry Hill.
Like Jabogitlu I have heard some very funny ones in the Carolinas. Sugar Tit is a place I would never move to. lol

There's always Nameless, Tennessee, made somewhat famous by being included in the book Blue Highways.

Sugar Tit? Harry Orgain? Sodom??? This is a g-rated forum, so I don't think we can ever discuss how they got their names. But I'd sure like to know! haha
There's a small community in White County and also a river there named Calfkiller. I always thought that was funny.
In NC near my cabin there are the communities of Luck and Trust.
And just north of Knoxville is Black Oak Ridge. Until I realized that there's a species of trees called black oaks, I had visions of some horrible racist past.

The letter "B" is especially well represented: Butts Hollow in Humphreys Co., Boogertown Gap in Sevier Co., Bitter End in Carter Co., Bugtussle Hollow in in Lincoln Co., Bucksnort in Hickman Co. & Buttermilk Shores in Roane County. A couple of others I like: Finger (McNairy Co.) and Turkeyfoot (Hamilton Co.).

Oh my gosh, there's really a Bugtussle? I thought they just made that up for the Beverly Hillbillies! I love it.
