Default looking for a smalltown not far from universities

I'm a freshman college student looking to move to have a fresh start. I think Tennessee would be a great state to move to and find a small town like my own. I live in a small town that is not too too far from several universities or small cities. It is lovely where I live, but I would like find somewhere away from home to start to make an early living on my own. Any suggestions for a friendly small town near a good university?

We need a little more information:

What is your major? What are you studying?

Do you want a public or private university? Religious or not?

What is your definition of a small town as far as population?

How much rent can you afford?

How far is "not far"? Do you want to bike to school, drive 10 minutes or drive 45 minutes?

You say Universities as plural. That will be hard to find in TN. Best to find the right U in a small town setting. Cookeville comes to mind as I read your post.

Agreed with Wmsn...we need more info to guide you properly. Off the cuff, however, there are a number of small towns near MTSU in Murfreesboro (Eagleville, Christiana, Readyville, Lascassas, many more). Likewise for TN Tech in Cookeville. Hopefully the OP will give us more info to help guide him/her.
