I since have set both units to 77 during day, and shut off basement air... This brought bill down to $271 or something for 3349 KW, I guess my bill is normal for the size of my home, its just our realtor checked utilities and stated the bill was an average $90, yeah right!

If TriDad's rate is similar to what you would have paid in Florida, then 3349 KWH would have cost you $433 dollars there. If those figures are correct, that's quite a savings . . . $271 vs. $433.

Air Conditioning courtesy of Mother Nature
It's supposed to be 56 degrees or lower here on the plateau tonight. That means we can open all the windows and let the house cool off inside.
We have a nice cool breeze blowing through the house now and if we shut everything back up in the morning, then we won't need the A/C until around 2pm.
Of course this doesn't work all the time, but normally September tends to have some cool nights even though the days can still be rather hot.
I'd be looking for those electric bills to drop a bit in the near future. ( at least until heating season hits.) Take care all

Hello Everyone, I haven't been on in awhile. Saw what you all are paying for electric. I'm jealous!! We used 3205 kwh this past month and our bill was 384.00. We are here in FL for another 3 years. I keep it at 79 and 80 for most of the day and night and also have pool pump on for about 8 hours a day. We are hoping to move when DH retires. I sure am looking forward to that day. Of course, if we wn the lotto, were outta here. LOL. It's a nice thought. Take Care!

So, we got our electric bill for September. First full month bill here in Chattanooga and it was $84.76 for 1014 KWH. We did run the A/C most of the month at about 78-80 (except some evenings when the temp dropped enough). Considering we were at $220 for 1700 KWh in FL, I am guessing our FL house with the bad windows were worse than we thought. Otherwise, I am not sure why we are using so much less electricity here. Anyhow, if you were to figure our bill here at 1700 KWH, we would still be less than FL.

Here in sunny Fl ours averages about $430 a month from july thru october. We have 4 adults and 3 kids, a pool, a freezer and 2 refrigerators. Last year with the jacuzzi running it was over $500 3 months in a row. We turned it off.
My sister in Camden has 3 window units on all the time, a freezer and a 'frig. Hers runs around $85.

The highest my electric has been since I got here in May is $58.18 for a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with all electric appliances and air conditioner set at 72. I never shut it off and I never turn on the ceiling fans (because I'm afraid of them not for any energy reason). I figure now that it's cooler, the bill will only go down.
Interestingly, when I lived in MD, I kept the temperature at 62. That was my comfort level for heat and air conditioning. I don't know why 72 in the TN apartment feels the same as 62 did in the MD apartment. Any ideas?
I haven't turned on the heat yet. Even when the temps were in the 40s outdoors, at night, my apartment here never got colder than 68 so I think I am saving a lot on electric even though I'm not doing anything special.

My bill for August was $146. I think it was about $110, last year. The increase is due to the heat wave, I'm sure, and lack of cloud-cover.
Oh! I have to share! My water/sewer bill was $60 last month! Can you believe it? It was $26, two years ago.
