Default Local UC resident needing info on goodyear

Hey fellas, I just found this forum while trying to find some info on goodyear and I liked the info on it and so I joined to see if someone could help me out.

I live in Rives, TN which is just outside of UC and my father has worked at the plant for more than 25 years now. Some of you who work there might know him. He wont give me much info on it and I was also wanting some unbiased info about the jobs at goodyear.

My main concerns are as follows:
-What are the benefits for new employees?
-How likely is the chance of the plant closing?
-They just switched to 12 hour shifts, how do the days off work?
-What position will I most likely be put into? (I had heard that they needed people to run the presses b/c they keep falling out, but I also heard that they just basically pull your name out of a hat for positions)
-How complex and technical are the jobs in the plant? Im a pretty quick learner and I can figure stuff out on my own most of the time, but if I ever needed help with something would they help me or give me the boot? I know before if you could not perform well enough where they put you they would put you somewhere else until you found what was right for you but now if you cant do it then they give you the boot. I just dont want to get in there and mess up, which is why I was concerned on how training went. I know at Lowes which is where I currently work they dont give you hardly any training at all which makes things harder, none of the managers will take the time to sit down with you and explain stuff to you or show you how something works. They just give you a video and you watch it and thats your training, but Im more of a hands on person.

-One last concern, my dad got hurt real bad 9-10 years ago while working at the plant, his machine broke down and he got in it to fix it and the supervisor walked by and saw it was off and turned it back on. It threw him down and put his legs behind his head and broke 6 disks in his back which are still broke. I dont know the full story its been so long ago but it was something with the conveyors and it had took him to the top of the plant, the only reason my dad lived was someone had heard him and the guy got someone to lift him up with a forklift to get my dad down. The guy that saved him died the next day of a heart attack so we never got to thank him. Still I hear of a lot of people getting hurt bad and even dieing, how safe is working in the plant now?

I appreciate any and all help, I need a good paying job so my girlfriend and I can get a house next year and get off to a good start. Thanks in advance!

Well I do not know much about any type of factory for I noe anyone I know has ever worked at one, I am a city girl who recently relocated here. Now, I am in the Mortgage Industry which as we all know is crashing the market, and economy etc etc.... However, back to your questions, I have seen several plants lay off employees due to the economy. You may want to google a little bit about the economy and it should lead you to a list of some sort ao future companies and there plans, also check the stocks when profit margins drop and stay down for a while you then here on CNN about lay offs, etc.
