Sorry I did not respond to your posts about Trixie sooner, I did not read the whole thread today before I posted....
Ummm....so you gonna buy a house or an ark???

If I didn't have a job and 3 kids to put through college, I WOULD have a farm but it wouldn't have horses, cows and chickens, it would have every animal at the shelter that doesn't get a home, would have one on the farm. Dogs, cats, birds, lizards, what ever......well, I draw the line at snakes and spiders, but you get the idea hhahhhahaa. I'd call it Rancho Bizzaro LOL!

Thumbs up After the rain, rescue a homeless dog or cat.

First, I have to report on the rain just to say that I am following the thread: 3 inches so far at the Atlanta airport!! Yippee!

Now, to the really important stuff. I love the name Trixie -especially when it goes with that darling puppy's cute face, mbmouse! It is wonderful that she is so well trained. She is probably very anxious to please someone who obviously loves her so. You are her hero!

We also have a rescued dog, a Cocker Spaniel named Lacey. We rescued her under a different set of circumstances that I never would have considered before.

Her original owner is a breeder of show dogs. A woman friend told me about one of her young pups who at 4 months old did not have the correct bite for a show dog and could not be bred for the same reason - our Lacey. She was of no use to the owner and they do not invest space, food, or time on "useless" animals. My friend said that she would probably be euphonized. We called the owner immediately, arranged to pick her up and now, she is all ours. What a wonderful member of our family.

I have heard the same scenario had existed for greyhounds who could no longer race (although, there are now well-organized adoption groups for these lovely dogs) and now we have the pit-bull sad story in the news. So happy you found your Trixie!

Let's hear it for rescuing dogs, cats, birds, but I agree, mbmouse, I draw the line at SPIDERS. Sorry to get off the subject. Another passion of mine - homeless animals.

I have friends who do have a farm out by Rogersville and they keep acquiring stray dogs. I tease them that their address must be written on every fire hydrant around there -- need a good home? Go to .....
A big black female dog showed up a couple of years ago and she got a home. Last year a starving puppy wandered in. He's now grown into what looks like a German Shepherd/Akita mix. This spring, a pregnant hound mix showed up. She had 6 puppies. The puppies they found homes for but Mom is staying.
They also have three Maltese, a toy poodle, a huge Turkish hunting dog and a Jack Russell.
The whole farm is ruled by a very bossy tom cat who beats up all the dogs. He's trained a couple to wash him.

Since this thread has turned into the "raining cats and dogs" thread . . .

Some people are "cat people" and some people are "dog people" and some people are both (that's me, I like cats and dogs about equally . . . the only reason I don't have a dog is because I'm gone so much). Occasionally I'll run into someone who doesn't like either. Personally, I never trust those people. If someone can't love a cat or dog, I don't think I want to know them.

I agree on both accounts, trusting people who don't like animals and change the thread name, so gonna adjust the name a bit so we are all "on topic" hehehehehhe

My cat said it should be "reigning cats" . . . but, since she wanted to take a nap, she'll let it go this once.
