I like MOrristown!
Here is my opinion of Morristown. I grew up and lived in a big city, Scottsdale/Tempe/Phoenix for 19 years. I then relocated to Knoxville, met a man and now I am in Morristown. I have traveled many places, two of my favorites being chicago and Huntsville, so I have seen my fair share. I have now lived in Talbott for a year, and I am very very happy! Morristown is my little secret! It's a fast growing town, but it still has the great country laidback feel. Everybody is super friendly! Morristown is for you (I reccommend Talbott, Hamblen County side... ecspecially off the lake!) if you are looking for great housing prices (make sure to do your research much of JEff city and M-town, Talbott, is on sinkholes), great rent prices (But not always easy to find, your best bet stay out of the east side-too many illegals, go west and look at duplexes run by real estate companies.. try remax.com; rhonda krenzer) You can find some decent housing downtown, but it all depends on what you want... some of it is run-down, also if you are looking for quiet, peaceful, beautiful scenery, low cost of living, a simpler life! But if you are not into a country atmoshpere and you prefer a lively nightlife, it is probably not the place for you! If you love hiking, mountains, lakes, its great! The downfall is not having to many options for dining-out in non-chains, and major stores, but that is changing everyday out here!! There are a few great places like java gardens cafe, Fuji Sushi, and smokie's BBQ that can stand up to big cities in my opinion. Keep in mind you are 30-45 minutes out of Knoxville, close to Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, so shopping is not a huge problem, it just takes a little longer. You haev great state park access (Panther creek etc). The major downfall is the illegals out here, too many of them. Also like any town, ecspecially small town you may get small-minded people, but for the most part I have had great interactions with Native Morristown folks, they are very friendly!! There are a lot of transplants hidden out here, you'd be surprised. Small Southern towns are becoming everyone's secret to get away from big city life! I personally reccomend living here, if you are ready for a change of pace, if not do not come here!! Oh and the nightlife scene consists of one decent rock bar, The Downtown, cheap beer, better selection than just budwiser (but no micro-brews), and a great variety of musical acts, oh and last call is midnight .... ugh I know! But Knoxville is just a 40 minute drive away, and they provide more nightlife options if thats your thing! As far as schools, I have no idea... I am just her temp and am attending an online technical school. I'd take a guess that they aren't the best, but I have no experiences with them. It all depends on where you are in life and what you are looking for!

OH, I do agree about jobs... unless you are moving here because of one already lined up... be warned you will most likely have to commute (30-45) one way, but keep in mind... in big cities you have to do that with traffic anyway. It all depends on your needs, wants, situation. As far as the illegals, they are the reason I will not be setting permanent roots here; they don't respect our laws and they junk things up. I'm not racist, hell I am from Az, I just know from experience. They aren't known for a super clean culture if they are illegal and poor. And yes, rednecks aren't any better, but at least they take pride in their country and are llegal!

We agree with Pilotsgirl.... but we are from Scottsdale AZ also (except for a short stay in Orlando). We have been going to the Morristown area for quite a few years and are within 30 days of moving to our new house on Cherokee Lake just outside of Morristown. Morristown is an old town with a lot of history. There are areas that need to be revitalized and that is slowly taking place. The good thing is that the town has all the goods and services that you need. Morristown will grow and I think in a good way.

morristown is nice
I don't usually write on these boards, but thought I should make some positive comments.I relocated here over 15 years ago. I've never heard anyone call Morristown rough! (now maybe Del Rio, or Cocke county has that reputation, although my best friends live there). We have a lot of transplants and international folks. We have our share of Austrians, Germans, French and Japanese because of local industries catering to the auto industries. Sure, we have Hispanics, but I've never had any problems at all. We have a nice community college, two hospitals and a mall with a theater. The Rose Center has a web site where you can see the arts calendar. The high schools have just adopted dual enrollment so you can potentially get an associates degree from the college by the time you graduate from high school. There is a nice accredited private school on the west side, All Saints Episcopal School, and a couple of other unaccredited private church schools. The majority of the newer subdivisions are on the west side and most newer residents seem to be steered to the Alpha/Manley/West school zone. Look in the Panther Creek area. We have a small airport and a busy strip of restaurants, etc. Our lake is over 50 miles long and has a gem of a state park. Our new mayor has a clean and green initiative and is helping folks clean up neighborhoods and clamping down on junk in town. Hamblen county has the only curb-side trash pick up so you don't have to haul your trash to the dump yourself. Morristown is just 10 miles from Jefferson City with a nice new St Mary's hospital and Carson-Newman College. If you live on the west side, you can get to Knoxville in 30 minutes, Pigeon Forge in 45, Asheville, NC in 1 1/2 hours, Johnson City in one hour. The old furniture plant in the center of town is being redone as offices, etc. Sure, you can always find the rough parts of any town depending on where you choose to live and how you entertain yourself. Call ReMax on the west side of town if you want to be near newer housing and the preferred schools. Go on-line and read the Citizen Tribune newspaper. This is a conservative small town, so if you want a party atmosphere, just live in Knoxville and commute to Morristown. Folks do that, too. We have beer here but no mixed drinks. Don't know too much about Greenville. It has a cute downtown, but we've got the lakes and the great location.

Moderator cut: advertising not allowed I was born and raised here. Right now the schools most people are wanting their children to attend are Alpha elementary and Manley elementary or Lincoln Middle and East High! Hope this helps!

I chose to live in Morristown, TN because it is a great place to live and raise a family. It is not rough around the edges. Morristown has a low crime rate, great schools, lots of employment opportunities, nice restaurants, beautiful Cherokee Lake and mountains views to the North and South. The town is less that an hours drive to Knoxville, the Tri-citys, Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Also the traffic is not bad at all. I would highly recommend this town as a wonderfull place to live. bbkaren must have some hidden motivation to bash Morristown.

I would have to agree. Anyone who bashes Morristown does not live in the area and they do not know the town. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Get to know the town and the people.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that likes Morristown. Guess you have to live here to know what it's like.
