Hey cnc - too bad you can't head out of the way just a bit. In McMinnville we got ours in less than 10 minutes - no one else in the building. And they accepted our certified copies of the birth certificates. Can't remember how much it cost for a regular license, but I remember being shocked at how little it cost. Totally hasslefree.

Very good suggestion, Bones. My son, who lives in Texas, had to make an appointment to get his renewed with a 4 month waiting list. He works daily in Juarez, Mexico and could not let his passport expire! There is quite a backlog everywhere, but especially in border towns and states - MI, NY, TX, CA. TN isn't on that list - whew. But, be early rather than toooo late.

Isn't there some way that you can pay extra and have it expedited? It seems I came across that info somewhere?

Oh, I'm referring to passports.

They do epedited passports, but from what I have read it is usually for emergency situations. I would check the websites:
How to Apply in Person for a Passport or
http://www.passport123.com/ or get the brochures and applications that the post office carries.

I know that my grandson's passport was expedited for a family trip shortly after he was born. I'll check with #2 son.

Cool Expedited passports are available.

Okay, hiknapster, there is good news and bad news. The good news is, according to my son, that you can go to an U.S. consulate (His was right in El Paso where he lives.), get the application expedited and have the new passport in your hands within about 10 days. The bad news is - he thinks he paid around $100 more to do that.

Checking on Passport123.com their fee is $159, plus the government application fees. So, the bottom line is, don't have a reason to get a passport. Just get one.
