Default What can anyone tell me about Jackson, TN

I have been looking into moving to Jackson, TN. I was there a day this summer and found everyone to be really nice. The areas that I looked in seemed to be ok. The houses were simply beautiful, at least the ones that I could not afford. Can anyone tell me about this city and a safe area to live. I never found the downtown area, so is there one.

I am moving from a pretty nice area in Ga, but I need to get a little closer to family in Arkansas. Any help is appreciated.

Never been there myself, but my sister has. They have a rather large regional hospital and I hear that job opportunities are fairly good.
We're going to middle Tennesse for Thanksgiving and retiring to Benton County in 3 years, so Jackson will be the closest larger city. We'll drive over there and see what it's like.

Jackson General Hosptial is quite a large employer. It has been expanding steadily for atleast 10 years now. They virtually own the entire area surrounding the hospital.

I lived there for 20 years, so if you have specific questions I might could help more.

Most of rural, north, and south Jackson will be safe.

I'm partial to midtown Jackson because that's where I grew up, and it's where I went to college. (I live in Memphis now.)

And yes, Jackson does have a downtown. Some of the more historic parts of it were significantly damaged by a tornado a few years ago. However, it's on the rebound, particularly around court square. There have been talks of a downtown entertainment district for some time now; it may or may not materialize.

If you have any specific questions, fire away.

I live about an hour from Jackson. I personally wouldn't want to live there but mainly because I live in a small town and don't like larger places. Their crime rate is fair. It's not great but it isn't horrible. I go shopping there occasionally.
