Not sure if this will help or not, but TN has been a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact since around 2003. This compact gives you a "multistate privilege" to practice in other states that are also members of this compact. You must hold your license in one compact state, which would be your home state where you reside, hold a driver's license, pays taxes and vote. However, you may practice in another compact state (remote state). This compact requires the nurse to practice according to the laws and regulations in the state you are giving care. A nurse that is under a restricted license or being disciplined is not able to participate in this compact, unless special arrangements are made or they are in a monitoring agreement which will be restricted across state lines.
It has been awhile since I checked, but the states I know that participate in this compact are... Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin. If you live in one of these states and hold a license in that state, then you have a "multistate privilege to practice" in any of the above states. If not, then you will need to obtain a single state license for non-compact state residents. I had heard at one time Florida and Virginia were going to join. There may be many more by now. I do know other states are joining from time to time, or are in the process of an evaluation to join.
In my experiences in dealing with the TN BOH, They have at times been very difficult to contact and resolve issues with. I assume they are like most of our health facilities... over worked, understaffed, and underpaid. It is at times a slow process. This past year my license was revoked for "non-resident". I live in TN, hold a TN drivers license, pay taxes in TN, and vote here. I live on the TN/VA border and our post office is shared by both states. However, I put both my home address (TN) and my mailing address (VA post office box), which pushed me out of the system. I did not realize this was an issue since I have been giving my mailing address for over 10 years. This took months to resolve and I finally had to drive down to the Board of Health in Nashville to clear this up.
