Money.
Its shameful. I use to ride with some old timers who told me stories of much much worse abuse and it was common place. The state hasinacted laws and craked down on this, but obviously not enough. I absolutly detest walking horse competitions. I cant even watch that crap at the county fair anymore.

I'm at work and don't have the time but I briefly read that the guy was arraigned or indicted this morning. There's more than just him, though. This is not recent and there are far more people involved. It's been an issue for a very long time and there are very vocal groups and other horse people that are very opposed.

Default Horse abuse

I don't know how prevalent the abuse is. Walking horse competition is a big money game-just check the private planes at the Shelbyvile airport during the Competition. The natural gait of the Walking horse is a beautiful thing. I have yet to understand why they insist on shoeing these amimls so they have to lift their front feet so high. The show gait is awkward and clumsy. It's ridiculous.

I agree. I wish the powers that be would ban all but natural gait competitions. And focus on the horse and get away from it being a beauty competition for the riders.

I hope public exposure and pressure will end this gait competition for good. The horses are beautiful the way they are.

I don't understand how a trainer can do that, but, even more how can an owner leave a horse with the trainer like that. I have seen abuses in the Saddlebred breed and owners turn a blind eye as long as the horses keep winning.

I hope the federal penalty is stiff - and I hope the TN charges are brought on all who participated or paid him. This is horrendous.

I couldn't even watch that, it just makes me sick to my stomach how someone can be so mean to a helpless animal of any kind !!! Someone needs to tie him up and beat the heck out of him and see how he likes it and the same for all the other ones in there watching. But like I said I could only watch a few seconds of the video. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
