Crossville is the golf capital of Tennessee....yeah for a little town but it is growing which use to be only a cross roads town that has expanded out past farm lands...ouch. Not like the way I recall. Again, Crossville golf courses are center stage for the state! We have several falls around like Ozone Falls. I must mention also how popular Crossville is because of the Cumberland County Play House Theater started by Paul Crabtree originally from New York City, New York. I still recall their first production when I was attending the old high school. They brought the show there before the Play House was built. My father was from Crossville as were my grandparents. I feel my roots are here, of course! I enjoy the foliage upon this elevation of the Cumberland Plateau that is about 1500 - 1800 feet above sea level.

I can't think of anything particularly fabulous that Cookeville is 'famous' for, other than being home to a great university - TTU. Sure, it's a great town, but most people that I meet outside of the state have never heard about us. Until, that is, we became 'infamous' on two accounts. The first being when during a state senate race, Byron 'Low-Tax' Looper shot and killed his opponent, the incumbent, Tommy Burks. Then, a few years later, we made national headlines when one of our city cops shot and killed a family's dog on a routine stop on the interstate (the family sued the city, then the copy sued the city).

Typically, Cookeville is pretty quiet (very low crime, pop ~35,000) so these two made quite a splash. I guess I should say we ought to be famous for our friendly people, good schools, great churches, and gorgeous scenery, but most of you from TN could say that

We do have a really old train at our depot that might be interesting to someone, but I don't know anything about it, haha!!

If we're famous, it's because of Crossville Ceramics and Crab Orchard stone, both of which are known all over the country in their respective industries.

Other than that, the old depot, depicted in the Alvin York movie (I don't remember which one).

The world's tallest tree house.

Current home of Earl "Big Cat" Lloyd, and Afroman.

Man, that is all so hoaky.

I remember stopping at the Crab Orchard quarry when I was a young kid (I think we were on our way to the Smokys). They were very nice to me and my brother and showed us around and how they cut stone and stuff like that. Then they gave us some samples to take home with us. That's been years and years ago and I still remember it. To a kid, visiting a quarry can be as much fun as seeing bears in the mountains.

Hendersonville is famous for being the longtime home and final resting place for Johnny Cash and June Carter.

It's also famous for being the home of Taylor Swift and many other country music stars.

Hendersonville is also the "soccer capital" of Tennessee with the HQ of the TN HS Soccer Association.

Using the word "famous" is at best a stretch and at worst a lie, but about the only thing of note we have here is a rum distillery.

You're so right about the crab orchard stone. Even as a boy growing up in Florida I knew about crab orchard stone. My grandfather was in the marble business (he provided all the marble for Publix in its early years, by the way) and when he built a country house out in the middle of the woods outside of Tampa in the early 1950s, he drove all the way up to Crossville for crab orchard stone from which he built a gorgeous fireplace. I always thought it was just the most beautiful stone I'd ever seen.

I've heard Crossville mentioned a couple of other times, one for the German POW camp that was there during WW2, and also for the Homestead community near the state park.
