Default Collierville,Germantown,Barttlet??Apt help please

My Fiance and I are moving to the area the first part of Octber from Austin Texas. We dont know the area at all, and will have to move directly into an apartment. Please if anyone could give us any suggestions on a very nice large apartment we would very much appreciate it. We are not concerned with price. We only want it to be in a very nice area, safe and not one that we will be able to hear our neighbors. We would need to have a large open floor plan with a large master bedroom because of our large furniture. We are looking for a two bedroom or three bedroom. We are looking online, and also calling apartment locators, however its so hard, and I was just hoping perhaps someone from here may be able to give me alittle more insight without trying to make some money... I would also appreciate it if anyone could tell me which town would be the best one to live in... Again I really appreciate any information I can get... have a great day

My suggestion is simply this....look around Germantown and Collierville...Collierville has a nice relatviely new group of apartments in the Schilling Farms area...also don't forget the possiblity of renting a townhouse...in GTown, several investors have properties properties...there was a really nice little area with a gorup of tonwhomes where the builder went broke and the bank(s) took them back right at the intersection of Kirby Parkway and Quail Hollow, which is in a very convenient area one block from the city limits of Germantown in "East Memphis"...there is also a very nice group of apartments right down the street on Humphreys BLVD one-half mile from the intersection of that road and Germantown Parkway...also very nice......just stay away from Cordova (on the north side of Walnut Grove ....!!!...the traffic is horrendous)...speaking of that there is an older complex at the corner of Walnut Grove and Germantown PWY...it used to be very nice...can't say NOW (everything changes)......please do check with agents because there WERE a few very very nice zero-lot lines, or villas with nice garages that builders and investors were renting out in Collierville.......(Lord forbid), if I ever accepted another post in the Memphis market
I would have to once again live only in Germantown, Collierville, or even out in Arlington.....not in the MS suburbs !, not in Midtown (unless I was behind WALLED Chickasaw Gardens, maybe), and never downtown ! (no grocery stores, Walgreens, 7Eleven close at all)......

Good luck, I hope your 'time' there is not a permanent 'sentence'.....do your time and find somewhere else to live.....TN is a very nice State, but Memphis is primitive and too close to Mississippi, if you get my drift...it suxx quite frankly, but it does have some good people, maybe just like you...you will just have to 'find them'....like 'other transplants' !

Default too bad for the MOVE

Well I just hope you're making more money with taking the new job...that's the only reason why I came to Memphis in the first place...but again, it depends on what you're used to and what kind of people and intelligence quotient you want to deal with....Memphis is not a 'hellhole', but it's close (by comparison...everything must 'live' or die by 'comparison', right?)....I made enough money to FLY out of Memphis practically every other weekend to somewhere else...Tampa, Atlanta, NYC, San Diego, Chicago.....the flights however in and out of Memphis Intl Airport are a RIP OFF by "NorthWorst Airlines".....I mean they really stick stupid Memphians for unknown reasons..there are massively cheaper flights in and out of Nashville, TN, and EVEN Littel Rock, Arkansas !!....go figure that one out !...I could not figure it out....even NOW, the flights SUCK compared to other cities !....and the city does nothing about it with respect to PRESSURE put on NorthWest or others...it's a friggen small town monoploy played by NorthWest on the citizen travelers to Memphis..

I hope you enjoy your job there...make the most of it while there...but don't get fooled...these people actaully beleive they're at the 'cutting edge', and many do really resent 'outside' influence and negative feedback, and they will castigate you, criticize you, and expect YOU to be the one to adapt and/or lower your standards or expectations...in other words many will even tell you "you're in Memphis now"....the translation is you should leave your experience and expectation at the 'city limits' (if you want to 'fit in').....frankly I never left my experience 'at the city limits' in any city in which I moved, whether it was Seattle, SanDiego, Atlanta, NYC, Charlotte, Miami, Tampa Bay, or a host of other cities in which I've lived.

Good luck, you're in for a 'time warping' experience, but it won't be 'all bad'...just keep a bag packed, your resume updated, and get the hell out and move to a decent city in the South...Memphis 'ain't it'....lol
