Default Cookeville: most affordable city in Tennessee

At least that's what George Mason University's Council for Community and Economic Research says. They performed the research on behalf of the American Chamber of Commerce Research Association. Barbiego mentioned that several years ago, USA Today ranked Cookeville as the country's most affordable city. Now it's #4. But it's still the most affordable in Tennessee.

A score of 100 is the national average, and Cookeville comes in with a score of 83.8. I don't know what other towns' scores are because I don't feel like paying to see the full report.

They based their scores on the costs of housing, utilities, grocery items, transportation, health care and miscellaneous goods and services -- more than 60 total items.

The towns in Tennessee included in the survey:
Chattanooga
Cleveland
Cookeville
Dyersburg
Franklin
Jackson
Johnson City
Kingsport
Knoxville
Memphis
Morristown
Murfreesboro
Nashville
Sumner County

That's really cool. Probably accurate, too. Housing prices are still pretty good, and there is grocery competition so there are lots of food sales. I think utilities are crazy expensive but I also think they went up everywhere. Don't really know much about the transportation end of things, but everything is fairly close if you live in or right near the city, I guess.

One thing I appreciate about Cookeville is that the roads are very well laid out and navigating around is about as close to intuitive as it can be, short of living in a city where the streets are laid out in a grid with all right angles or something.

Cool. I am glad to see this because I was focusing on Cookeville, in case we can sell next year when things are more in our favor. //okay for now in Maryville.
