Post News, Smoking in Cookeville police cars banned.

COOKEVILLE -- Smoking in Cookeville police cars is being banned as a new state law prohibiting that practice in public facilities goes into effect Monday.
Cookeville Police Chief Bob Terry said on Friday that he was preparing a memo to notify all members of the police force that smoking will no longer be allowed in the city's police cars.

"The new law bans smoking in most enclosed public places, including places of employment, and technically, a police car is a public vehicle," Chief Terry said.

"But even though there's a new state law, this is something we've been considering for some time due to all the health considerations that we're all aware of."

I really can't think of any jobs where an employee would be allowed to smoke while on the job. Construction, truck driver, maybe. Can anyone else?

Why would the police be allowed to smoke while on duty in the first place? What they do on their own time is up to them and their lungs (cough, cough), but while they are defending the community - put that butt out!

It's a bit like using a cell phone while driving, wouldn't you think? As if speeders and crooks weren't distraction enough!!

That's kindof an odd article cause smoking has been banned in fire trucks & ambulances(in the front, obviously) for years.Police cars were supposed to be a part of that.

Then you'd see cops driving by smoking...

Funny...

Today's the day! The grass is greener, the sky is bluer, the air is cleaner. I can go into all those places that I couldn't have yesterday, and spend, spend, spend.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! Yay Tennessee!
