Thanks, that's specific. Very important to research and visit an area before moving. We went to the area we are looking at last summer and visited several homes for sale in our price range, just to be sure of what we can expect. We have also been researching the amenities and entertainment options in the area. I suspect CC did not do a lot research before moving.

edited to add: There's more than one kind of research! Where I live/work now (Sacramento, CA area) was just voted as the most "livable" cities in it's size range. The place is so unlivable we need to move. The traffic is bad and getting worse, the smog is some of the worst anywhere except LA, the crime has gotten so bad that there is at least one to three murders per week, people are incredibly rude and stressed out. It used to be livable 15-20 years ago. No more. I've lived here 40 years and I love Eastern TN. I think you need to really "see it up close" before you amke the big move.

Cool, I was born in Sacramento, Ca. Rancho Cordova. I've been in Gainesboro, TN(Jackson County) for almost 17 years. I didn't love Tennessee at first. Pretty much the first month. Homesick I guess. Well, after 16 years I had to go back home to Romulus Michigan. I am sure GLAD DH made us leave back then. The whole area I grew up in after moving there from CA. I tried to Google Earth where we lived to show mom and dad the house but it don't get in close enough.(The house in Rancho Cordova)

Romulus was amazingly tired looking. Lets just say bad. My BIL still lives there. He's moving his family back to Sparta, TN next month. His house won't sell because gangs have taken over a once very nice neighborhood. He's just walking away from his house.

Anyway. I won't leave TN. My kids are natives. They are Boyd Flatts great grandkids. DH says everyone knows me more than him. lol I told him you gotta go to town more. There's always so much to do around the farm. I don't have time for a lot of things. I'm close to Cookeville and can go do anything I want. Then escape to my piece of heaven.

We are thinking about a move to Sparta. Still the same difference as where I'm at. We still own the family farm so if we don't like it we can always come back.

Hey Starwalker, Rancho has sure changed! Parts are still the same though. It has grown and they just keep building more and more houses around it. Eventually it will be solid houses from Zinfandel to Hazel Ave. We have a rental house that my hubby owns in Rancho Cordova still, and we live up in the foothills. It will be about 18 to 24 months until we join you there in Tenn. We are hoping that the market will take an upturn before then and then our houses will go on the market.

The house we lived in at 2088 Elmanto Drive. I think I spelled that right? I was 3 when we left. I still have the pics and 3 D shots dad took when we lived there. I'd love to show them a pic of now. lmao. Of course we lived there from 1963 to 1966. I imagine it's charged a great deal. We are trying to sell 2 houses side by side to buy the farm in Sparta. We need more land. Thats the only reason we are even thinking about moving from Jackson County. The land here is too hilly for our horses and we have a few that are getting some age to them.

I see that on Google earth! Man you guys were really close to the river! That would have been a cool location to grow up, but you were too little then to appreciate it. I lived about 1/2 a mile from there in 1985. My hubby's rental is about 2 miles from there.
We're going to move to Loudon County when we leave here. I can't wait.
