Really, it's very touristy. Nothing wrong with that but I wouldn't consider it a big family reunion. Lots of tourists and slow-moving traffic for the most part.

I wouldn't say we don't have them, but in most places you won't find trouble unless you're looking for it. I have a few less than respectable family members who have run in drug addict circles and have talked about there being some really scary people living around here. But for the most part they stick to the shadows and will leave you alone so I'm not too concerned about it. One of the oddest moments of my life was when a family member told me she had a parent-teacher conference with a known "drug lord" from the area and told me, "I don't agree with criminal activity, but at least that man is concerned about his child learning to read properly. That's more than I can say for a lot of parents." Of course, I'm suspicious about whether or not that family member would know a "drug lord" if they bopped her on the head, but she isn't the sort to make stuff up, either, so I'm inclined to believe he was at least involved in a drug related gang.

I live in Nashville and the gangs that are here don't really do much on the street like you would imagine in say Los Angeles or even Atlanta. Every once in a while you may hear about it but most of their activities take place in jail or prison. The only real exception are MS-13. As for Nashville as a whole, most gang members are individual drug dealers on the street and there is not much actual true gang-related violence here or gang warfare etc.... except once in a blue moon.

There is a very violent gang in Morgan County Tn. Most residents who are aware of their existence are afraid of to say anything. And there have been accusations of bribing police officers.

Think purge and you have an apt description. But a lot of residents remain oblivious.

Same for Morgan County. I was actually afraid to comment too much in my own words.

Strange thing occurring in Penn / western NJ border, the " Gated Communities " are becoming a spawning grounds for Gangs, whereas they know the local police don't enter. Haven't read that, that it is occurring in Tenn. well...

The FBI released a statement on a well known gang in the Memphis area. All six members of the Gangsters Disciples were indicted yesterday.
