cooking Gas Vs. Electric
It seems many of the areas out there have only electric. We have this where we are now. I miss the gas cooking in Chicago.
What areas are you in that has gas?
What is your preference?

Yes, Davidson County is Metro Nashville.
There is gas in Clarksville, but not in most parts of the outlying area (Montgomery County).

Gas ? We got gas. What kind do y'all want, regular, supreme ?
Crossville has natural gas, better than electric for cooking, hot water, heating, etc. Not out here in the boonies though....

If natural gas isn't available, you can usually get LP gas. Then again, if you are in some of the larger towns they may frown up the tank.
Electric in Tennessee is pretty cheap and as much as I miss cooking on gas, I can manage.

I grew up with gas in Southern California. The gas company was so eager to get rid of the gas coming out of the oil wells that an electric stove or anything else was an oddity. I also had gas in Washington, D.C. because I lived in older areas where they had gas lines before electricity came in.
I have yet to live in a place in the South that has natural gas. Unless you're near an oil field or refinery or in an older pre-electric city, I doubt you'll find it.
I've adjusted. Older electric stoves were awful. The burners never seemed to heat all around. But now I've got a new electric smooth top with multi-size burners and infinite adjustments and I really like it. Very even cooking.

Another thing that would help in that regard is using cast iron cookware. I like the stuff made by Le Crueset, it's cast iron but with a non-stick surface. It's expensive, but lasts a long time.

Since I'm half French, I'll make a plug for Le Creuset pots, too. They are the best.
At any rate, in just about every town you'll be able to get natural gas. If you live outside of a city then it's hit or miss. But as TnHilltopper said, you can get gas delivered to your house in giant canisters if that's what you really want.
I honestly don't understand why more people don't use gas for cooking or heating. It's so much easier to regulate the temperature when you're cooking with gas, and when you turn it off, it's off.
